I switched to a Vaquero (no replies)

I switched from a M6 to a Vaquero because of wrist and shoulder problems. I needed something light, comfortable, with good disc, ground balance, reasonable depth, hot on gold jewelry, and stable around power lines. I was sure I need a TID machine until I saw some videos on You Tube of 53 Silver using the Vaquero. I tried one and bought it. One thing that I learned from another forum is that when you find a target and rotate the disc knob where it discriminates out and then bring it back in,if this target sounds cracky or fuzzy, it is usually trash. Even unbroken gold rings. I will try this out and see. Anyway learning new techniques is fun. HH and thanks for reading.

Praise God! My Days Are Looking Better. (3 replies)

This past month has been a trial, to say the least. I'll spare you the details and simply say that the heart surgeons have found the problem and made the necessary repairs. Two days out of the hospital I moved to a different apartment within the same complex to get away from the second-hand smoke, which was making me very sick. Thanks be to God, I had the necessary energy to make the move and get situated but it's going to be a week or so before I'm back in the swing of things. I am so grateful for all our Heavenly Father has done for me and all He has supplied. Tonight is a good example: the AT&T repairman calls me and apologizes for not making it Friday. He tells me they were swamped and simply couldn't make it. It turns out he's interested in metal detecting and was eager to learn the basics. He left with my web sight address, a lot of documentation, and our friend Al's information to make the necessary equipment purchases. I was so over joyed that he went above and beyond to get my DSL service up and running, on a weekend that I also gave him a 'L' digger and hunting pouch to get him started. He may even end up being a hunting buddy? So I thank you all for your prayers and thoughts for recovery. If I don't meet you, in this life, I'll see you in Heaven. Amen? May God bless us all with our every need as well as the desires of our hearts according to His will for our lives.

The Old Trolley Stop (1 reply)

Drove the 20+ miles to get to the Soccer Field from Monday's hunt only to find about a hundred kids using the field so I had to
go to Plan B. There is a an old trolley stop that I've hunted in the past with my Explorer II that was my backup but I didn't get there until after lunch.
The last time I was there I only found a few wheaties so I figured the E-Trac would find a few goodies. It always pays to have Plan B !!
The 4 wheats and the 26 Merc were found in a small area and then not much else. About 50 feet away I got a 12-40 signal at 4 inches. Cutting the
plug and pulling it away revealed a silver dime in the hole. Hmmmmm......doesn't look like a wheaty??? I pulled the coin from the hole and realized it was a Barber dime!
This reading was a little low for a Barber dime so I waived it by the coil and it still read 12-40! I immediately thought of the post from a few days ago about how to tell the wheaty
signals from the silver signals and the advice that everyone had given was to dig them all. Good advice, let's keep diggin' them wheaty signals. Happy Hunting everyone.

First 14K ring & clad (1 reply)

I went to the river today and had a rough day. The good thing is I found my first 14K gold ring with what looks like a diamond. I almost didn't dig it because I was finding quite a few square pull tabs and they rang up as 53 on the DVI and so did the ring. It just had that tone that told me to dig it anyway and I'm glad I listened. I forgot my pain pills and could hardly get out of the water and I got hassled by 3 little boys while their Mom sat at a picnic table and did nothing about it. I don't blame the kids because they haven't been taught to respect their elders or anybody else, but I do find fault with the parents. Anyway, I dug so much trash today and I intended to title this the good, the bad and the ugly, but changed my mind. After I got out of the water, I had a message on my cell phone from a lady in Florida giving me permission to water hunt on her property and she told me there used to be a church on this property and a small cemetery.
I will not go near the cemetery, but the old church and the swimming area off a bridge on her property I will hit it as much as I can. I also will not go back to the river except on the weekdays to avoid anymore hassle. These kids wanted to help me dig my targets and I said no thanks and they were throwing freshwater mussels at me and hit me in the back with one. Everywhere I went at this site, they followed me and the mama just sat there like a bump on a log and I got very uncomfortable. A little mischief I can understand, but they really aggravated me today and I thank God I didn't lose my temper.

I found 11 coins: 4-quarters, 2-dimes, 1-nickel and 4- pennies.
[attachment 266070 May-18Riverfinds001Small.jpg] [attachment 266071 May-18Riverfinds002Small.jpg]

I'm waiting to hear from a lady in Colorado about another place that used to be a recreation area with swimming and hope she gives me permission.
