I finally received my Pirate Pro. I've been using a waterproofed Fisher CZ-5 for all my water detecting, works great except the waterproofed box is heavy and awkward to hang around my neck. So I decided to get a Pirate Pro, with everything in the headphone. Did a quick test, everything works fine; and solves my problem of weight. The only disappointment is the depth, less than the CZ by 2-3 ". So now a dilemma, if I use the Pirate I will miss those gold rings if they're more than 6 " or so (the CZ can detect them up to 8 1/2"), but the Pirate is much lighter and easier to carry (really nice to carry on a plane). The question: how many gold rings are more than 6" deep? Only touch up on the "threshold" pot...and the results were great!

Now instead of 6", it can detect a gold ring to 8-8 1/2". Threshold is just a small hair backoff from the "snap, crackle, pop". BTW; the external sensitivity control became VERY sensitive and touchy. It may help if they replace the external sensitivity pot with a "more turns" pot.

This is in the air test; we'll see how it performs in actual Fresh and saltwater. No doubt it'll do well in Freshwater, I'm worried about saltwater...may have to back off on the sensitivity thus losing depth. (Won't be going near any ocean until June, will find out then)

BTW: I opened up the Pirate Pro, and the circuit board looks exactly like the Wader.

I shovel everything in to a basket and then search the basket.
I don't think a ring at 6 inches would be a problem to find. But since gold is heavier then the stuff I'm finding it could probably go this deep quickly.
If you're detecting near a resort hotel where items are dropped frequently and the area detected heavily then rings might not get past 6 inches.

What kind of test did you do, air test, ground test?

I don't own a Pirate, so I don't know what kind of air, ground test depth you are getting.
But, if you can get 9" on a dime air testing. Then it's comparable to a Wader (I own). But, expect it to be less than the Wader
being about $300 less (new). Otherwise no one would buy the Wader.

I think your best bet is to do some dry beach hunting. First do a large section. Dig all.
Then go back over with the CZ and see how much the Pirate missed. Then maybe do another section with the CZ first, then go back over with the Pirate.
Then do the same in the water.
Results might surprise you.

How many rings are within 6". Hard question when water hunting. Depends what the Surf Gods decide. If they feel like storming up the shoreline, the gold is going to sink deeper in
beaches with deep sand or the wave action will dig some troughs and expose some once deeper gold. Lake Ontario shoreline is going to change every storm.
If your land hunting with sand loamy dirt mix, the rings may sink deeper than cross the lake NY real dirt which is more dense. But, like they say most coins and rings are found within the first 6 inches.

I think your biggest problem is you own a deep CZ. You won't be happy with any detector that will not go as deep. You'll always be wondering what your leaving behind. I hunted a water area with my Wader that was just hunted with an Excalibur by an experienced owner. I found a lot he missed as well as 1 gold ring.
