Using the original 10" coil. Haven't had time to detect outside my back yard which I've hunted heavily in the past. Haven't found any coins or keepers yet (may be the location). The big deal is that I am digging at least twice as deep as I'm used to. I've found shallow to medium depth Mercs and Wheats and clad in my yard with my other machines. Now with this Explorer SE I'm getting deep (like 10"+) and I love it. I'm mostly using the SmartFind screen but checking some signals with Digital. I just added a probe yesterday and have to get used to it again. I've got a 6x8 SEF on the way and I'm sure I will get the 10x12 SEF as well. I will get a book too. Any advice or direction you can post would be much appreciated. Thank you. GL and HH. Matt

Hi fellows,

The good was that my detecting club was asked to help try and locate some old grave markers at this old cemetery. Nine of us showed up and we had a blast. I found two and another gal found another one that was buried under grass and moss and the names were all from the same family. I dug up an old tea pot that was probably used to put flowers in and then two old tin cans that were used for the same purpose. All together we found about nine old grave sites and the people in charge of the cemetery were very happy that we found what we did. It's always nice to help out people with doing things like this and my hat goes off to our club (OPTH) Olympic Peninsula Treasure Hunters for helping out. After we worked this cemetery for quite awhile we decided to head to this beach and do some detecting. My buddy Lee told me that he has never found any silver at this spot, but that all changed last Sunday. He found a merc and a rsoie and a 1903 V nickel and he was happy about that. The bad part was that this beach does a number on the silver coins, but I kept my Barber finds going by getting one ugly dime and one ugly quarter. It was tough to try and get a date on either one and I can only speculate what the dates were. I think the quarter looks like a 1901 and the dime could be a 1910. Wish they were in better shape, but you gotta take what the salt water beaches around here give up. Thanks for looking and HH to everyone.

Eddie

The local Police often wave or stop and talk with me. Today I was detecting and a park patrol officer not the police stopped me from detecting and said you can't dig holes on city property. He said you could detect but not dig, He asked me for ID and went to his car and called the police. A Patrolman come to the scene and said I would have to get a permit from the mayor before I could hunt. There are no signs in the park prohibiting detecting and no articles in the paper about any changes in the law. I checked and could not find anything prohibiting metal detecting or cutting plugs in the park. This park was founded in the 1920s and is hunted very often by many detectorists While the park patrol was at the car checking my ID I filled the hole up and when he returned I asked him if he could tell where I had dug the plug. He could not tell but said that did not make any difference. It is getting pretty bad when you wrap a fortune up in metal detectors and lose more hunting grounds every day, The joggers and park users know me and consider me one of the park fixtures. I guess that is over now. The park is Baker Park in New Castle Indiana.

I have found some good stuff with both and am very pleased with my purchase. After hearing about this small coil and its capabilities I was waiting for my eye opening moment when it found an item I would not have found with any other machine. Yesterday was that day. Went hunting with AHunter at a small park. Right off the bat found two wheats so we knew this park had not been picked clean. About an hour later I got a 14-28, 12-27 with an occasional 6-26 mixed in. Eight inches down (full eight, not guessing) I pulled out a 1904 Indian. Also in the hole was a rusty nail and half a bottle cap about six inches down. A little while after that I was getting roughly the same signals with a 4-28 about every third sweep. At six inches got a 1920 merc along with two nails. With any coil on the SE Pro go sloooooow and listen to every signal. If a good signal appears and its half way deep dig. Great machine, great coil. Ended the day with six wheats, 2 Indians and 2 mercs and still have 2/3 of the park to hunt. HH
Pastor Bob

My buddy and I went detecting today on an Eagle's property with permission. It has a long history of different uses over the years. My hunting partner uses an Explorer SE Pro also. Right out of the box he found a 1906 Indian head penny. We hunted for about 5 hours and found clad and junk. At about 5:30 pm I dug up a 1904 Indian head penny. That was it for today. I found a Canadian dime the other day and it was a 1968 dime that has an interesting history. It seems some of the 1968 Canadian dimes have no silver and some of them have 50% silver. mine tested as being one of the silver ones based on its weight. It seems the silver dime new weighed 2.3 Grams and the non silver dime weighed at 2.07 grams. Mine was the heavy one. I bought my Explorer SE Pro and received it about 2 weeks ago. I had an old SE with the 10.5 inch pro coil but sold it about 5 years ago. I have regretted it since the day I sold it. I am happy to be a member of the Minelab fraternity once again. Good hunting everyone.

Toastie Postie afterthought. (5 replies)

I haven't found much worth posting for a while, so I decided to post this toastie after all.
About two week ago I went back to the newer field I had been hitting. I found two more IHs (1883, 1892) and a toasted large cent. Can't even make out the date.
Targets are few from this field, but that makes 5 IHs, a KG II, a LC, the British Artillery button and about half dozen flats. Not TOO bad from three short hunts.
The grass is thigh-high now and I'm waiting for the next cut.
Bruce

Two beach hunts on Sat nets two silver. (10 replies)

My buddy Lee called and wanted to go beach detecting last Sat, so we went to the first one with not much success. Got some clad and finally dug up a ugly looking 42 quarter. The salt water, sand and rocks does a number on the silver for sure. Lee was getting frustrated not finding anything and wanted to hit this other beach where he usually finds at least one silver coin almost every time he hunts this beach. The tide was way out so we hit the low beach first detecting around the old pilings from an old dock from years ago. Not my cup of tea detecting the beaches around here as most are very rocky and really hard on the feet to walk on not to mention the slippery seaweed that's almost like a ice rink. We both got some clad and Lee did get a well worn silver ring, but the silver was evading both of us. We both started working the higher shoreline and I got this sweet sound. My first thought was a clad quarter and even after I dug my target and looking at the backside I was thinking what Washington state quarter is this. I turned her over and saw the lady and she turned out to be a 1910 Barber.:clapping: I ran over and showed her to Lee and he said nice going. The back side is not as nice as the front, but still a nice find. Sure is a difference between the 42 quarter and the Barber, but no matter the condition I'll take two silvers any day and just being with my buddy Lee is what makes this hobby so much fun. Thanks for looking and HH to everyone.

Eddie
