Fields are planted had to switch to grass tonight (1 reply)

I have been hunting the fields of Indiana all year. Crops are pretty much in the fields now. Had to try grass hunting tonight. I got into an old yard that I have had my eye on for a long time. They are tearing the house down so I wanted to hit it before it got too trashy. Two mercs were in the same hole. 1920 and 1917. The ring is one of my favorite recent finds. It is very pretty, heavy, and marked copper. Got a painful lesson about yards though. The second hole I dug, put my hand down and cut my little finger. Nasty piece of glass along the side of the hole. Dug the gloves back out for the rest of the hunt. CZ was fun to use and got the job done.

Don
HH

F70 or CZ 3D? (2 replies)

I am getting ready to purchase an F70 or CZ -3D. I primarily hunt for old coins and buttons, but don't mind finding awesome relics. The spots I hit are very old churches and farmhouses. The targets are deep, so I need a machine that can regularly hit in the 8" - 10". I currently run a Vaquero and Safari. The Safari has no problem with depth, but my hunting grounds are littered with iron/ old trash and the Safari doesn't seem to do so hot in these areas as often as I would like. I had a T2 SE that did great in iron, but I just didn't like the machine in general. The Vaquero does an amazing job in iron/trash, but doesn't hit hard enough those older coins in the 8" - 10". My biggest issue with the CZ 3D is that I keep seeing threads where people are writing that "some" CZ 3D's are deeper/hotter than others. Is it basically a crap shoot when you buy them as to if you are going to get a "better" working model?

My research has me leaning towards the Cz - 3D. Any and all suggestions, and pros/cons, on either machine are more than welcomed....Thank you in advance.

The depth, the enhanced mode and nickels in high tone were all positives that led me to cz-3d #2.

My second cz-3d has now found me some good seconds - my second Barber Quarter and my second and third Standing Libertys both in the same hole. The "d" and "s" mintmarks would have been fortunate, unfortunately no dates.

The one 1920 token looking item that says Modern Health Crusader is kind of interesting. I found out that was a campaign aimed at school kids to prevent the spread of TB. It's actually a pin with the pinback missing.

I've had the detector a couple weeks now and I've been digging a lot of intentional nails to educate myself. So far I've only had two digs that I called nail that turned out to be coins. One was the rosie in the pic below.

I've had more digs that I thought were coins turn out to be nails, but still almost always coin (or some other high conductor) when I thought coin.

There are definitely a good percentage of spots where I'm going to use this detector instead of my AT Pro.

CZ-6 did well! (7 replies)

Thanks to your help, I was able to get the old CZ-6 up and running! Took it out for a test drive (as well as against some metal objects to make sure it still worked) and got some tones! I tried the original headphones (despite one side being broken) and they worked as well. I will be investing in a jack so that I can plug in my own headphones.

I originally set it to the factory settings (red numbers) but decided to try the auto-tune just for kicks and giggles and was able to get a high sound! I tried to dig something up but couldn't pin point the exact location, nor could I pinpoint how deep it was. Therefore, after digging an entirely too large hole, I didn't find anything. I'm chalking it up to either the deep penetrating ground power picking up pipes or the soil (speaking of, do ya'll know if my detector would pick up micah, the foil type mineral?).

Since I know the basics of it now, I will be trying it out on my property in the mountains where there is a lot of history! More posts to follow with finds and/or progress!

Thanks again,
Miss E.
