Confersation I Had with Minelab (1 reply)

A couple of weeks ago I had called in to minelab to ask them a question.I wanted to know how much the lower nuts and bolts would cost me.The lady at the front desk told me over the phone,6.00 plus 15.00.Plus there
would be a processing fee which is 15.00.Then I told her that I would like to speak with one of there techs.and she told me we can not let you speak to one that they are to busy. But I had explained to her it woudl only take
5 mins.she told megood bye and hung up on me.You know that is not a very good way to run a bussines especially when we as people that buy there detectors and acces..I just thought that was very unproffessional the
way they treated me.If that is the way minelab is going to treat us the public and or customer then why should we take care of them. It's pretty sad that when you call a company and need some help with a problem and
can't get any help why buy ther products. What we shoul do is boycott them,it's not like we need them, they need us.I don,t know about the rest of you people out there if you have had any problems with minelab doing you
like this but we have got to stick together. These detector company's stick together. And the money they charge for these detector's is rediculous, you are always hearing about how detector,s are breaking and falling
apart and chageing big prices for them. Then when you need help from them you can,t get any.Look at Fisher Detector's they use to be made good and when you called in to ask them a question someone would help you
now look at what kind of detector's there making. They are cheap and when you get them there falling apart or not working, then your windding up sending them in to be fixed, they need to take there time and make sure
they work right before they pack them up.Minelab is doing the same thing ther all making junk and they dont care any about us.Some day we won't have to worry about where we are going to detect the detector company's
are going to take care of that for us with the junk there making for us.All i'm asking money is hard to make now a days dont you feel that if we are going to have a hobby that the company's putting out these detecror's
could do a little better on there end of the deal....P.S I just wanted you to know what happen to me lets stick together and demand a better product from these company's and make it hurt in there pocket.

Safari Evaluation (11 replies)

I have owned my Safari for one year. Here is my opinion on it. First I had to send it back and the service was excellent. The first thing I found with my Safari was a 1907 Barber dime at 11"-depth excellent. Learned the tones in little time so learning time excellent. The things I do not like about the Safari is the processor time is so slow, if you hunt a new park or after concert etc, where you are just coin shooting (clad) it is way to slow. Example my Whites XLT will cover more ground and find more coins at about a three to one rate. Warranty is only for one year, my Tesoro u-max is lifetime and half the cost. I really believe that if I go as slow with either my tesoro or XLT it will go as deep as my Safari. Final-the Safari is a good detector but not a one thousand dollar detector. Found this draped bust, frock button, and a bunch of tombacks at a cellar hole I hit on saturday. My buddy found an 1836 Largie and a Beatup Connect. Copper. The dent in the draped bust is a cudmark, I thought it was just dented but apparently that was common during minting, die crack/break etc. you can sometimes find out what variety the coin is it's cudmark... pretty cool. I tried using my safari in custom coin mode tonite, sens at 20, trash low density.... It didn't work very well! I found all the coins except a Kennedy half dollar I planted at about 4" a little over a year ago. For the life of me I can't find it! I had a camping trailer parked over the coin garden for about six months and my little flags were chewed up by my dog so I wasn't exactly sure where it was. But I do know within abot 3 ' or less of where it was in relationship to the quarter I have already recovered. Why it won't ring up I don't know but I have tried my Safari and two other lesser detectors and haven't been able to find it! This has me baffled. An air test of an identical half really lights up the machine and reads out a 39. Ay ideas? Onus

These finds are from a "hunted out" park a few min. from my house and all found with my Safari. I have hunted all different parts of this park but found 2 areas that were producing so I spent most of my time in those areas. The first set of photos are of 1 of the 2 areas about half the size of an American football field. The field is very trashy and in every hole going below 10" I found brick, rock, pottery, glass and pockets of rust, etc. It is a very noisy area. I didn't find a lot but they were good finds to say the least.
At first I used a custom setting of 12-15 and 32-39 with the stock coil. It was this setting I found the items. I then went with the preset coin mode and found nothing more worth mentioning. I then spent a little time with coin and jewelery mode and found the watch. It would be great if any of you have more ideas for searching and coils to use.

There is a LC 1839, 183? and 1817, 1894 Barber Q and a Province of Nova Scotia Token. There were 2 late 1800s IH and two 40s Mercs but they are mixed in with more photos to come. The button as seen has an eagle holding maybe an anchor. Last but not least is the watch. I am almost certain the center is gold the disc below is silver. Let me know what you guys think.
I have many more posts coming, as all you know I can't load a large amount of photos. Any questions?, please ask me.

PS my next post will have the remaining photos from this post

Purchased new from Kellyco to use with my Quattro but it should work with other Minelab detectors that have the Quattro shaft design. The additional weight over a number of hours in the field aggravated an existing physical health issue and subsequently the coil has been in storage for a couple of years. Before using it in the field I air tested it compared to the standard Quattro coil with various coin denominations and the EXcelerator Il averaged +/- 1-2 inches overall additional depth detection under ideal conditions. Price FIRM: $125.00 cash or USPS money order only. No Paypal. I prefer a local area purchase pickup but it can be shipped via UPS to a US address only. Buyer pays all shipping and insurance costs. Picked up a new Safari a few weeks ago and found a 10k class ring (over 1/2 oz) my first time out. Now this morning, this beauty turns up. 14k with many diamonds all real. Weighs in at just over 1 1/4 oz's. Looked for the chain but it never showed up. Does it get any better?

How did this get here? My first real silver (7 replies)

After almost three years of detecting I dug my first real silver coin, and boy was I surprised. I almost always hunt the local schools and parks, which are all 1960s and newer. This morning I had about half an hour to kill before taking my daughter to school, so was at the community sports field using a custom pattern with only 36-39 open, which is good to use on short hunts so I don't waste all of the time digging pull tabs. It was just about time to leave when I got a shallow 38 with a 'warble' sound. Hoping it was a quarter (I had already dug 2 pennies that ID'd at 38) I dug a small plug about 3" deep and saw the size of it and thought cool, a half dollar. When I took a closer look I saw seated and couldn't believe it. Guess it was in the fill dirt they used to level the fields. Maybe it's time I start going to some older sites.

Bart
(Safari & F-75)

1723 Woods Hibernia (3 replies)

Went to a late 1700's cellar hole out in the woods on Sat. Area was trashy, lots of beercans, bottlecaps etc. Got a nice smooth 37 and I knew it was a small silver. Below the plug second handful still in the hole... I'm thinking yes be deeper. I find the coin and gently wipe away the dirt and it was a 1920 mercury dime. It may has well been clad, I had visions of a reale, capped bust, or even a seated. We weren't finding any lamp parts, hinges, buckles, spoons etc, so we figured maybe it was the barn. Sure enough about 30 yards through some heavy brush we found the homesite. As soon as my friend put his detector down he got a beautiful frock button, and then a nice 1803 draped bust penny. Then I got a nice smooth 37... ahhh yeah baby! I dig the hole and see the silver coin, I brush away the dirt and it's a 1940 merc! I've never been so disappointed to find a mercury dime at a site like that.

Sunday we went to another cellar in the same set of woods where my buddy pulled dozens of buttons, draped bust cents, war of 1812 military button, etc. But this was a cellar hole we had never been to and within an hour I had my first coin. It rang at 38 steady and i knew it was a large cent. It was a 1738 Woods Hibernia, my buddy found the identical coin 12 feet away, then a breach buckle in incredible shape and I found a nice frock button but unfortunately it was hit by farm equipt. We knew we wouldn't be finding any US coins at this site since it was clearly a mid 1700's site. So it was nice to get an old copper at an old site. Don't get me wrong I'll take mercs all day long, but when you drive long distances and hike through the woods and swing colonial homesites the last thing on your mind when your staring down the hole at a silver coin is a merc! It's big, about the size of a half dollar, and it was DEEP, around 10". Nice to know I'm not missing any big silver way down below. This one rung up +36 on the Safari.

Got this off the internet which gives a bit of history of the company:

MENDOTA, a town in the northwestern part of Lewis County [Washington state], named in 1908 by the Mendota Coal and Coke Company, who had a mining company in Missouri with the same name.
