<title>T2 LTD saved me a couple of nice civil war period finds recently (2 replies)</title><link>http://www.findmall.com/read.php?30,1092079,1092079#msg-1092079</link><description><![CDATA[ I Hunted a couple of pounded civil war camps recently with the new T2 LTD to see what was left, and came up with 2 nice civil war period coins and a pretty button.<br />Here's the button it's a nice looking eagle I<br />[attachment 145230 eaglei.jpg]<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />. another good find was this 1858 flying eagle. Here's the back fresh from the dirt.Once again this one was missed by many others because it was so deep, but the LTD nailed it<br />[attachment 145229 centb.jpg].<br /><br /><br />And the front, 1846 fresh from the lowcountry of South Carolina. Hard to find one this old, that's been in the ground this long, yet come out so pretty. I am having trouble even getting guesses on what it is. It's 5" x 2" at it's extremes. Made of brass. This is a field where an 1800's house once stood. It was also a prison farm in the 1800's. <title>for those who like relics... i had a lotta catching up to do (8 replies)</title><link>http://www.findmall.com/read.php?30,1091577,1091577#msg-1091577</link><description><![CDATA[ hello all. i'm just returning from a 45 day absence due to my work. i did manage to squeeze a few hunts in with olddigger, but didn't have the time to post 'em up. i thought this would be a good opportunity to catch up. as you can see, i've dug up a good bit. i'm not sure what type of musical reeds they are, maybe a harmonium? they were all found together at the base of a large oak tree. several sharps and three ringers, underwear buttons, a nice silver ring, a thick buckle, saddle pieces, perc caps, partial buttons, flat buttons, a huge floral/octagonal button, an 1862 [?!] fattie cent, a couple of j hooks, and many rivets. there's even part of a bayonet scabbard tip in there. the williams cleaner is carved on two sides. as always, we found lots of whatzits too.<br /><br />we slogged through the mud yesterday, but still had a good time. thanks for looking and reading, and hh!]]></description>

One appears to be a scabbard tip inserted into a Burnside cartridge. The other is octagon shaped and is a little smaller than a quarter. It may not be affiliated with CW at all. It was found in an area that has produced a lot of good CW relics in the past. I wonder if it could be a badge from a CW reunion??? Went to a kind of worked out civil war site in Missouri found two minnies, one button back, and a whole bunch of round balls. Made two coin like finds also. First is about the size of a large cent, however, it is plain on both sides, maybe some very faint markings but definitely not a coin. Second speaks for itself. Look at the picture and read what it says. On the back it is dated 1861. This is a super find. A real sutler token.]]></description>

I found my first buckle and I didn't know what I had found at first but I knew I had seen one before. I finally found one on line to compare too. Mine has US on right side and in middle has T.J.SH ( whats left of T.J.SHEPPARD) On the left it has what is left of CHICOPEE MASS.<br />I also found 2 fired 3 ringers, back of a button. cuff sized flat button and 2 piece Eagle button. The other day I dug this and believed it to be a cuff link. Well I finally found some info on it and it appears to be a Colonial cuff link that dates to circa 1750-1790. It is sterling silver with a really pretty design on it front and back. Hope the pictures show up. If anyone has dug this kind or have any more info please email me back or come back to this thread.. Dug a nice 1859 Indian head penny, 5 bullets, pocket knife, small brass buckle and this button. I dug the other button with Gray Ghost during the summer. They were both dug on the farm we've been hunting and were dug within about 20 feet of each in a small camp. The back mark is Scovills &amp; Co Extra, that appears to be an 1840 to 1850 backmark. Found some stone foundations and all these shovels under some trees along with a railroad stove and lots of glass and broken snuff jars. I know it's not very old (1905-1912) but I can't wait to see what lies below the ground in the spring. there is now about three feet of snow here since last week!]]></description>

Hit a beat to death site this weekend with it and still came away with 2 nice relics. I dug a rare backmarked S Carolina button E.L.Roche. It's not listed by Albert or Tice in either of their button books.This means there weren't enough known for it to be listed making it a rare one and dug only around Charleston.
