Hunted today with my buddy Scott. The ice flows have dissappeared, so we hunted a very cold lake today. The AT Gold did a great job! I used the true all metal mode with the iron audio set and 35 and turned on. When I got a signal, I would just peek at the VDI numbers and make my decision whether to dig or not based on the number(s). I hunted mostly the junky areas, and got most of the coins. That 5" x 8" coil really gets some surprising good depth. The Garrett Infinium LS (PI) worked well in the deeper water, and as usual, got another ring left behind, probably because it was about 10" deep. This water has been pounded to death with at least a dozen hunters. Yet, the Garrett's always seem to find some keepers missed by others.

Here's the ring.....the Lord's Prayer written in Croation. A very nice ring. I also got a shopping cart token, which can be used in shopping carts requiring our Loonies ($1.00 coins)

Anybody else have this problem? Here's the situation: I've learned to keep the detector off the "All Metal" mode, simply because it finds and picks up nothing but iron trash. So I almost always keep it set on "Jewelry" Mode. Secondly, the detector see's Gold and Pull Tabs as the same thing. And its almost Always correct when it tells me I've found a pull tab.....so I don't bother digging anymore when I get the Pull Tab indication. Lastly, when I get the "Nickel or Rings" indications, it never is. Its always either Foil or junk metal or a pull tab. So I don't bother digging on those indications either. But as I mentioned, the detector is remarkably accurate when it indicates "Silver or Coins." Unfortunately, probably 90% of which are PENNIES!
So here's my questions to all you experts out there:
(1) Should I use the "All Metal" mode more often in case I'm missing some good treasure on rare occasion? Nevermind the wasted time digging up all the junk.....
(2) Should I dig up all the Pull Tabs indications anyway? In the off chance that it might be gold? Again, considering the huge waste of time.....
(3) Considering the "Nickel and Rings" indications: I really don't know what to do.....I've had no luck with them at all. Of all the Nickel indications I've gotten, only ONE was actually a nickel. The rest has been Foil and Junk. And I've haven't found a Ring yet! Even though it indicates quite often, and its usually Foil, junk or a pull tab.
So, I don't know what to do about those two indications.
After all that, what I'm left with, is a very expensive PENNY finder! Granted, every once in a while I'll find a dime or even rarer, a quarter. But 90% are pennies as I mentioned.....its just starting to get frustrating and honestly, kind of disheartening.
Anybody out there with some good advice or with a ACE 150 also, would be very much appreciated.

I also will not go back to the river except on the weekdays to avoid anymore hassle. These kids wanted to help me dig my targets and I said no thanks and they were throwing freshwater mussels at me and hit me in the back with one. Everywhere I went at this site, they followed me and the mama just sat there like a bump on a log and I got very uncomfortable. A little mischief I can understand, but they really aggravated me today and I thank God I didn't lose my temper.

I found 11 coins: 4-quarters, 2-dimes, 1-nickel and 4- pennies.

Headed out after work the last couple of days with getting some oldies in mind. I lucked out with a little loot, an old lock, an old ladies small compact and a brass or copper whatchamacallit?

Here's the pic of the old lock and an unknown find....any ideas? My wife thought it could have been a curtain rod or a one half scissor.......

Spent most of the afternoon into the evening water hunting a fresh water swimming area at a lake. This place was pretty well hunted out last summer and fall. A great day....lots of sun, a little breeze and all the ice has pretty well melted. However, the water was "COLD" so I wore my chest waders and brought along my long up to the elbow neoprene hunting gloves. Interesting results......the pic speaks for itself. The AT pro got the easier stuff in the top 5-6 inches. The Infinium got the stuff at depths up to about 15 inches. I often use the Infinium in hunted out places because it puts signals back in the lower strata. And it goes "DEEP"....

This is for all the new hunters....the ones with few hours under their coil. We all dig a lot of junk. We just don't show it. It often times gives the impression that we are so good with our machines that we only dig coins, jewelry and relics. The reality is.....we don't.

Thoroughly disgusted with the events of the day I arrived home and told Marie "It was time to leave" and with that we were on our way. Must say by 1400hrs the weather sure had turned for the better as the rain clouds left replaced by a gorgeous sunny day.

After a stop at Tim's we parked at the lowered lake that Navy Davy and I had been hammering with good success. Swinging area was limited as the lake was being refilled. Marie made herself at home on the new stone steps as I swung the Freedom 3 scoffing a small silver ring, a button and a few coins.

Finished quota off at a local park with Marie snapping photos left and right. One photo she took stood out and I told her I would buy this for her if I dug enough up! Not in this life time me son!

Anyway quota was had. Home we did go.

Once at our humble abode the best part of the day was delivered!

COULD IT BE! YES YES YES YES! My birthday present to myself had arrived.

Even came with a manual...one i haven't read for over 20 years!

Unfortunately I go under the knife tom morrow and won't get a chance for a tad to swing her or the other ones I own.

For the next while I'll be an armchair quarterback watching and reading about you bouys a swinging and cheering youz on. Happy hunting and a special thanks to Randy in Kansas (a.k.a. Got home , cleaned up and tried to adjust my new ride. Great thing that you don't have to take a driver's test as I managed to bump into a few things. Thinking I'll be crutching it more than using the ride even though I hear it gets great gas mileage!

Mother's day. The one who brought us into the world and loved and nutured us. Think this was taken just a few years before I was born as best as I can find out. Only photo I have of my biological father and mom together. Love and miss you as all sons should!

Three When time is short and people keep wasting your time with questions. [What have you found etc.] I started using this "Hey, would you like to buy this outfit for a good price & a free half hr lesson" ?
Their intrust starts peeling real quick. This has saved me a lot of hunting time on the beach.

Four Ever follow Yourself ? You might find out your not as hot as you think. I've found some holes of mine that weren't so neat. And also I have found enough Treasure that I walked over the first time to make me wonder just how good a hunter I am.

Five It doesn't hurt to do a little Pro Bono Finding something for someone is always a good feeling. As a reward I've gotten from a back breaking hug to a couple of shots and a beer and once a $100. They all felt pretty good.
