Well today I tried it on the 1270 and no pinpointing at all, tried everything won't work no sound. So I called KellyCo and they said not there problem, they can only go by what Fisher tells them. So called Fisher and talked to there 1270 Tech who told me they are not interchangable the new coil will work on the the older machines but the old one's will not work on the new 1270. Ended up talking with the manager and I said the only reason I bought the 1270 was I already had a large coil for it. Told them all the ads say they ar interch. coils for 1200 series doesn't say when the coil was made. Tech said the wiring is different 1 has 4 wires and 1 has 5 wires. There checking it out and are suppose to call me back. Dought if they'l do anything about. guess So figured I'd put the word out on the forum. Not happy about this.

Just after turnin it on, another neighbors twin Grand-Daughters came over and said they checked with their mom and received permission to hunt with me... The CZ7 doesn't have an external speaker so they couldn't hear the signals... Went to get my 1235-X so we could all hear the musical snap-crackle-pop this machine produces... Got a good laugh from one of the girls after she looked at the face-plate and said "Suprise Hunting" as there is no display to indicate what the target might be... Dug several pop tabs and a few clad coins which disappeared into one of their pockets... Highlight of the hunt was this lead cow-boy which was made in England... I've found several lead Soldiers, but this is the first of the western theme...

Sure had a good time with that old machine... Sure is true what that young one said about "Suprise Hunting" as I dug all targets that beeped...

HH Robert

Setting the record straight-1280 and Fisher Repair-Lifetime warranties and repair services. (15 replies)

I saw this post the other day and it sounded odd so we looked into what might have happened.
___________________________________________
1280x and Fisher Repair New
Sent my old 1280x in to have the coil changed...First Texas would NOT honor the lifetime warranty....$265.00 later and 4 weeks I got it back looking and working like new......Shame it only worked for an hour and a half before it quit. After 2 hours of arguments with repair they told me to send it back and they would "Look at it"

Last Fisher ... Or FIRST TEXAS Product I'll ever own
____________________________________________

Its only fair that our loyal Fisher customers get to hear what I found regarding this repair and warranty. Here are the details.

1280X
RMA# 4854
serial# 14224 mfg date March 7, 1988 ---(This is almost 12 years before Fisher even offered a Lifetime warranty!)

Customer called claiming lifetime warranty.
We did not find it in the life-time warranty database. Not registered. Felix then asked for some proof (sls rcpt, etc). No response to our request for proof. Customer sent unit in for repair.

We called with the estimate, $261.87. Customer claimed surprise to hear that he had to pay.
Felix requested proof of LT warranty again.
Felix requested name of dealer, anything we could do to help resolve.
Customer claimed he did not remember dealer, and that dealer was out of business.

He paid for the repair with credit card, approved on 9-9-09.

Detector failed very soon upon receipt.
We paid the freight to bring it back.
We calibrated the detector incorrectly and our inspection failed to catch the calibration error. We opened CA or Corrective Action report for this.

While it is unfortunate we did not fix the detector properly we did resolve it quickly and paid the return freight.

We did not begin to offer lifetime warranties until December 1999 and this detector never had a lifetime warranty-not even close-even thought the customer tried to claim this and then made a malicious post on this forum about us not honoring a LT warranty that he had to know never existed! He either bought it used without a warranty or new long before LT warranties existed.

Fisher always has and always will honor lifetime warranties on detectors that have it. Unfortunately customers that know they dont have and never had one try and claim they do which leads us to have to take the following steps;
1. check our lifetime database
2. request proof of purchase
3. see if the serial number falls under the lifetime warranty range

If the customer cannot supply this information and it falls in the right range we ask for the dealer they purchased it from and will try and confirm the dealer was or is an authorized dealer and confirm the sale though them.
We always try and make customers happy but are also reasonable with what we can and cant do. We always try and fix detectors properly and are proud of the quality of our repair work.

Thank you,

Mike Scott
Global Director of Hobby Sales
First Texas Products
Office 414-897-7005
Mobile 915-667-2225
E MAIL - ms@frsttx.com
1465-H Henry Brennan, El Paso, TX 79936, USA
www.tekneticst2.com www.fisherlab.com
www.detecting.com www.nightowloptics.com

:canadaflag:First swish with the 1280x (4 replies)

From the land of the Bluenose.....the yard sale went well over the weekend but unfortunately Marie is now under the weather with a cold and such so spent most of the day taking care of her.

Took off for an hour and went to a lake that is about 10 minutes from home and fired up the Fisher.

First impression of the Fisher was that it was not on as it is so quiet and a tad on the heavy side compared to the Seahunter. Notched the discrimination half way as with the volume control which is a great feature. Coil is larger and the wire to the headphones appeared to be much more rugged. Have Rick from Sweetdreams Detector hooking me up with an extra battery pack (one in it a tad finnigy) and a hip mount.

For the pleasant half hour that I used it it was a joy and doesn't chatter or fad in and out like the Seahunter. Managed 13 coins at 39 cents, a dinkie and a religious medal thingie. Overall first swish was a success but from the reviews I'll limit it to fresh water and leave her home when I go south this winter!
<div id="div_b6603c74856cb914b8d06ed10ba7e664"

1236 recovery speed (5 replies)

I recently discovered several videos by Norfolk Wolf (I believe) showing recovery speed of different detectors. He placed a coin and an iron nail on a board and moved the nail to determine the distance between the two that would allow the detector to identify the coin after passing over the nail. ( recovery speed ) Some of the results were surprising.

Has anyone tried this type of test with a 1236? I don't have a big old iron nail to test this. I would sure think that this recovery speed would be an extremely important ability for a detector. I read on another site that the 1236 was only average in this ability.

Thanks,
