Today was out for a little hunt decided to test it in the volley ball court. Ran in every mode after putting a dime 9" in the sand. Ran each mode 15 disc and 80 sen kept moving it up. Ground balanced every time first auto GB then manual up it 3 auto was 79 up it to 82. What really got me was all mod's picked it up but not a strong signal high tone choppy vdi jumpy. Then i put it in the PF mode solid hit dead on vdi stayed their, like the dime was laying on top of the sand. Getting to learn this machine takes a little time learn something every time i take it out. I have had the Gold bug Pro-MXT-Minelab Safari. This is the best one yet just takes time to learn once you have look out.

F70 turbo charged. (2 replies)

I had my F70 out yesterday at the local park searching for clad. This is the second time out with the F70 so I am still learning the machine. I went over a section that I had previously searched with my ML Se Pro. I started pulling quarters out left and right, all of them about 5" down. I found 20 quarters in this little section. Surprised the heck out of me. I was using my Garrett pro pointer to help locate the coins, I noticed every time I got the pro pointer a few feet from the coil the F70 hit on it loud and clear. I did an air test on the pro pointer with pointer turned off. I was picking up the pro pointer up at over 3 feet. I dropped the sensitivity down to 50 and it was still hitting at over three feet. I thought I must a special machine so I air tested a quarter it was hitting over 12" not three feet. Why would the pro pointer hit at 3 feet?

I have owned an F5 for about two weeks now. I bought it for jewelry hunting and as an alternative experience to my Tesoros. Today I took it out for only the third time and lo and behold, I find a 14K gold band!

However, the ring has an inscription that reads "R.C to B. F. Feb 2 1918". I found it next to a basketball court so obviously this ring was handed down through perhaps two or three generations (Im certain a 100 year old man wasnt out thee shooting hoops). So Im obligated to try to find the owner.

How does one go about this? Craigslist? Local newspaper? how long do you give the owner to respond?

In any event, Im still happy I found gold! And It will be nice to get the ring back to someone that likely has strong sentimental feelings for it.

My settings were 90 gain/ +3 thresh/ disc at 3/ Fe notched/ GB at 68/ 4 tones. It rang out at a solid 37. It was only just under the thatch, so about 1/2".

Took the F70 to a off the trail site up in the woods today. A small 30ft 3 pole rusty old tower of some sort. A spot we used to go drinking when we were kids and boy were there a lot of old faded cans and broken glass bottles. Doesn't look like a popular drinking spot anymore for the current generation although there was on Monster Energy can so someone's been there in the past few years anyway.

Basically, I got skunked. 1 stinky clad quarter, 1980 something, and a butt load of bottle caps. Oh, and one really good deep signal with nothing else around it that got me excited. Kept hitting high 80's, low 90's at 6"....turned out to be a rail road spike at 10". The nearest railroad is a mile away.

Not my first experience like this either. Hear in the Mid Hudson we have a lot of stone walls and foundations out in the woods. And I mean A L O T !. Unfortunately they attract similar behavior. Tons of beer cans and broken glass bottle caps. I've been skunked every time I go to these sites.

BTW I'm running the F70 with a Fisher 11" DD so I'm in better shape handling the trash than if I had the concentric, but man it get's tiring digging so much crap with so little reward. Thank god for tot lots and schools to bank some higher volume clad on to break up the disappointment of the woodsy hunts.

Really gotta get one of those 5" dd snipers for the woodsy hunts, just a matter of waiting out a good deal on a used one as I can't bring myself to pay the $135 for a new one.
Weekly totals for the F75 (7 replies)

I enjoy my F75. I have spent a few sets of battery's in hunting and have a few working setting I trust now. I usually hunt parks and haven't been nugget shooting or cache hunting with it for a few days. I have finally found some old silver coins, but those aren't in this weeks totals. I did remove what lil trash I did dig, and all new coins that will work in the coin star machine. Even in the most trashy areas, I can use my 11" coil and still pick out good signals, on top of or right next to pull tabs and bottle caps. I still dig a few bottle caps and pull tabs, but not very many and happy with that. Now my pinpointers are acting up so I have my 5" inch coil on now, and still digging just as many coins if not more with it. I found a few pocket spills today, was nice to get out and hunt with Jeff again. Jeff is a good luck charm. he hunts with the T2. The T2 is really a great machine also, Jeff pull some funky looking stuff out the parks we hunt for sure. Jeff digs a lot deeper than me too. Without a pin pointer, I wont dig any 11" inch targets. No pennys at 2' feet this week. But I wasn't in all metal mode either. Im happy just hunting the first 6" inches or so. Jeff kind of gets aggravated as I pull coin after coin out of the ground, and he is pulling old tin cups and candlestick holders up. I haven't went deep yet......lol. I just barely turn this thing on, and go. The machine is very accurate it ID and depth when I do this. The 5" inch coil really settles the machine down too, its very quiet. So quiet I wonder sometimes if its working at all. This unit was bought used, and I have had it about 6 months. I hunt the desert, and parks of this area. I do have emi issues, that can be overcome. If I want this machine to go really deep, I have to get away from the power lines. All Metal mode is deeper than the disc modes. There is one mode that is super sensitive and can only be run in the desert. This si a older machine without the power boost mode. I cant imagine this detector ever hotter. It isn't a minelab, or a AT Pro. But if there was a machine that could do it all, the F75 would be close. I don't count how many coins I found, I count trash to coin targets. It lets me know if I am not overloading the coil signal and causing it to miss or false on targets. Again, this is about half of what I have found. The good looking change and eyeball finds are in a bag awaiting the coin machine at the bank. Thanks for looking.

<div id="div_bd19db770549b3752ccd743c4cf90d5f"

The F70 Groans from the deep (7 replies)

Been hunting a beach here on the Wisconsin River that is used by a local pub/restaurant for summer volleyball, parties etc. Their season is just getting under way so I've gotten permission to swing the F70 there. Others have hunted there but don't know anything about them or their equipment. Lots of bobby pins, tabs, foil and iron. Found some clad , mostly quarters which seems unusual but considering it is a younger party crowd, I can see that would be the more common coin to loose. The thing I've noticed about the spirited F70 is there seems to be a relationship between the coin signals that seem to get kinda chirpy or distorted, and the presence of iron signals.. Like falsing. I have my mode 1 set to autotune for a quick comparison to what I am seeing in my mode 2 channel also for a better ground balance. Mode 1 is set at 65 sensitivity, and 0 threshold. Mode 2 is 65 sensitivity, 6 discrim. 0 thresh. delta pitch or 4H with nothing notched out. I use 6 discrim. because the Wi. River has lots of iron in the water and 6 will cut down on the low tones a lot. I found totally by accident while in autotune, I was hearing some 1/2 volume groans. They were so weak that there was no VDI at all. I switched to discrim. mode to try a comparison and there was nothing there. I turned up the sensitivity to 75 and threshold to +3 and there was still nothing there. Yes I am using headphones. I switched back to autotune and did a pinpoint which said about 8 inches. So I dug to 8" before the pro point finally started to pick it up. Determined to find out what the heck was going on and not having to worry about a mess, It ended up being about 10" to a clad Oklahoma quarter and water standing in the hole. If I am running so much gain that I am creating falsing from iron signals, how am I ever going to hear the deep targets? This is why I use autotone a lot. Does any one else find themselves switching back and forth between autone and discriminations modes? Or am I doing something wrong?------Larry

Took the F70 to Peopletown yesterday (1 reply)

Just SE of Turner Field in ATL is a old neighborhood called "Peopletown" it is chock FULL of people! I was flying past on I75 and decided to wait out rush hour and scout...old houses and really old sidewalks and even carved curbs and brick streets from there all the way over to Grant Park...the bummer is where I was trying to hunt, too many people, and the ground was so hot I could not get the coil within a foot of it! Some old guy said lots of this was built on fill, and then he said it would probably be a good idea to leave,...I only hunted for 3 minutes..not because of the ground, I would have figured out a clean spot eventually...you can just smell the old coins in this area...there was just too dang many people wandering around with nothing to do...there are schools and totlots and curb strips galore...has anybody ever tried to get in there and hunt? drove home all night and made it home at 530 am today and ready to go tomorrow on the normal milk run...Everybody ready for a good weekend?
Mud

ps...a 15gr gold chain hits at 18-19 on the F70..and can only be heard with moderate settings when the coil is within 4" of it either balled up or strung out...in comparison, a very small 2gr gold ring hits at 23...perhaps its worth while to go after a few of those strange signals this summer in likely locations. Especially if you raise the coil a little and lose the signal, it might not be iron or foil after all...

The F2 get's a F- for sandy Soil/Beach hunting (15 replies)

I took the F2 out today to a couple of local beaches(gravel pits),and on the flat farm lands. The beach is sand, and the flat farm lands are sandy soil, also. I had to run the sensitivity all the way down,(one bar left showing)from the top because of the mineral content() in the sand/soil? It was still giving false signals like crazy, and there is no power lines,or anything else,by the areas I was hunting? I guess it's the minerals in the sand/soil,and it looks like I'm going to have to buy a better MDT to use in this area. It works like a champ in regular dirt/soil,but not in the sandy conditions I was trying today. When I got back home it worked perfect in the back yard, and never missed a beat?

Can't hunt in my front yard! (7 replies)

OK... I have a quick question. I picked up an F2 last night. Maiden hunt on my parents property by the lake went well, didn't find anything interesting, but it was fun to watch the numbers! Brought it home and hooked it up, turned it on (with headphone this time), and the thing went bonkers! Chattery and all over the map. Unplugged the headphones and it didn't really make a difference. Had to turn the sens. down about halfway. Walked around the corner of the house and all was well. I went around the back without incident and up the other side of the house and about halfway up, it went nuts again. I have a Garrett and a White's and have never had an issue with them. All connections were tight on the Fisher. I do recall having an issue using an electric fence a few years back though. There are no overhead lines and all the electric and other lines come in the side yard, not the front. Are some detectors just that much more sensitive? Or is it an issue with the F2's?

Not being familiar with the machine I dug all signals except those that were iron, Spent about two hours with it, dug the following 5 Quarter's, 1 dime, 21 pennies, 12 pull tabs, 1 screw cap, 6 steel bottle caps and 11 piece's of junk. This is a fairly new area so all items were shallow and some found on top of the ground. The machine was set to the factory preset settings,

f75ltd mod to reduce hand stress (9 replies)

Gettin older, my hands fatigue sooner, pain in evening etc. Heres a mod only a true Fisher Fanatic could do. I put the arm troughs from both my F4, and F70 on my F75ltd. After a lot of thoughts on using tubing and such, it seemed the way to go. Im glad the holes align and screws fit on all three models. Both forearm pieces have slots for velcro straps, so I am using two straps, although one not showing in pic. Note the velcro on the handle shaft and glove.- yes they line up when Im using the unit and the glove. The object in this case was to stabilize my wrist and suspend as much weight passively, that is without using my grip. I can even swing it without using my hand! I have to tweak some things, but honestly on an hour test run this evening it seemed to help. On a long day will see if it affects upper arm muscle groups. As I used to do when I was a therapist, would love to custum fabricate a hand piece with a tunnel opening for the thumb, now that would make a good handle. Good Hunts All, CO

I generally leave the pencil ends, zippers and pulltabs in the totlots and even a few pennys for "tells" and reference points for when I come through again. They let you know right quick if some other detectorist worked it.
