all metal tones (1 reply)

Hey there guys. I've been using the DMC IV for a little while now and liked it so much I bought a used IIB also. Thanks to the great info on this site I picked it up pretty quickly and have been making some fairly deep recoveries. I do have a couple questions though,

1. My IIB has 270mah rechargeables. Is that the factory recommended? How long to charge with the Calrad 400mah charger? Is 2.7 hrs(270x4divided by 400) right?

2. The IV has a very pleasant all metal tone, kinda hollow flutey sounding. The IIB all metal has more of an annoying buzzing sound more like a high voltage power line. Does that indicate some kind of issue that could be fixed? or do they all have this sound? It seems to work ok.
The power and sens settings don't change this and it doesn't matter what headphones I use. Thanks for any help

It runs on 4KHz and I thought it might be good on one of my favorite pursuits, tradesilver. This is in most cases very small pieces of thin silver. Would this frequency be hot for these items? Or would their small size give problems? If nothing else I figure this machine should like deep iron, probably? If so it might be good for trade axes and the like. Any ideas or input concerning these thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I've heard about people finding deep bullets and buttons. So far I've found an 1800's sleigh bell at 12 inches, plus some deep junk iron at about the same. I'm waiting for a deep button or coin one of these days.

How does the signal sound for a deep target? Faint for the discriminate beep? I've had a few targets I thought were deep but turned out I was off with pinpointing with the coil. Kinda interested in getting a Dmc2b. I live in SW MO. Our ground is probably considered medium to high mineralization. Will the DMC2b be able to handle this type of ground for relics at extreme depths. Or would I be better off looking at one of the newer detectors out there such as the F75 or MXT. I really liked the way my old DMC2 operated. Anyone out there useing their machine in mineralized ground? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Sell or Not! (6 replies)

I bought a IIB about a month ago and have hunted twice for about an hour both times. I am finding it difficult to learn this machine. I am beginning to wonder if I bought the right detector for my use. I hunt relics in Georgia, this is the type of hunting I do most always. I have trouble making the needed adjustments for ground balance and coil balance to the point I never feel comfortable it is right before I hunt. Any advice would be appreciated. I know I have not given it much time but! Thanks in advance!
