Is this a old belt buckle ?? Dug in a old CW camp. Is this some kind of Frame Buckle? It looks like it is stamped out of copper sheet. Early buckles, before say 1850, where cast out of copper alloy or brass and would tend to crack rather than bend up like that.

Boiling copper? Never heard of that one. Using pliers to gently unfold it, after wrapping the jaws of the plies in electric tape first and then placing it between 2 pieces of wood in a vice might straighten it out some. You want to avoid cracking it or scratching it IMHO. I have straighten bend silver coins that way with some luck.
