I have found lots of coins, neat stuff and trash. My question can anyone give me a program that works good for then in finding gold rings or coins. I have found about 15 silver rings but no gold rings. I don't have the time to get out, but I am planning on making more time... thanks to all of you and your hobby ....Kyle

Lots of books on XLT... (1 reply)

As over the years read most of them..Whites itself has several with five or six from general authors with no connection to Whites, If you can pick up the one from the Doctor in Pa. certainly good reading and don't remember the name..Remember what works in one State or area may not work in a another but perusing the many programs on the net can give you some good ideas. Certainly stood the test of time as its been out since 93 or late 92...No secret program just what works for you in your area and a brisk swing adds to your depth...

White's is looking for treasure photos for our upcoming 2010 Calendar. If you're handy with a digital camera and would like to show off some of your White's finds, we'd like to consider you for the calendar!

Here's how it works:

Images should be oriented horizontally. Finished size will be 11" x 8.5".

Shots need to be at least 5 MB to enlarge properly. (Bigger is better.)

Closeup shots of treasure(s) are best. You can show off a spectacular find, a collection, or even your finds from a period of time: a day, a year ... or ALL of your finds.

Include your detector in some of the shots.

Maps and other related props are great.

Not sure exactly what we're looking for? Send thumbnails of a variety of shots.

Please don't e-mail photos over 1 MB. Either e-mail smaller (low-rez) images or upload your full, high-rez images to a free photo-sharing service like photobucket.com and send the us the link to view them.

Submissions will be accepted until November 13.

Photos chosen will be awarded a $100 Accessory Certificate and receive 10 free copies of the calendar, plus photo credit.

Questions? Send your submissions or questions to:
calendar@whiteselectronics.com

Sens. In my opinion, this gets you the depth. That, plus you have opened up the -50 VDI numbers which allow for more sensitivity which is equaled as depth. Yes, you will get ferrous and non-ferrous hits, but you being the professional hunter you are, you'll know which to dig.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION!
After you have installed this program and go out to try it, you're probably going to see that when you ground balance, it will say "OVERLOAD". And then you'll say an explicative that isn't allowed here. Don't worry! Ground balance ONE MORE time! The "OVERLOAD" should go away. Once you start searching, you're going to hear the iron targets. If the machine becomes unstable, try ground balancing once more and if that doesn't fix the problem, back down the Pre-Amp Gain, NOT the A.C. Sensitivity.

As I mentioned, you will hear some iron targets. But, also as I mentioned, this opens up more sensitivity which equals depth. What you're going to want to PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to is the FAINT targets. These targets are going to require you to speed the coil up as you pass over the area. Once you speed your swing up, you will get a good solid signal. Once this is achieved, you'll want to pinpoint the area. It's probably going to be deep so BE PREPARED!

All of these coins I dug today were 8-10 inches. All of these coins had FAINT signals that I had to speed the coil over the target area to get a steady, solid signal.

This is called MAXIMIZING the Perfomance of the White's XLT and Stock 9.5 Coil.

Because the XLT has made me a better detectorist!

I've been using it so much lately, working on my trash awareness, that I have gotten better with my other units. Many of the items I found today were masked by trash, but I recognized that when I got "odd" signals. I then check a little closer when I get such responses, and I analyze a little more. In the past, I was more inclined to just move on.

In the 2 weeks since I've gone "back to school" with the XLT, I've tuned in more to what is going on beneath the coil than 2 years worth of detecting previously.

I mostly just hopped from place to place, testing for a "hot spot." Didn't find one, as you can see:

<div id="div_cadd0116505fbcd97908e9308466232a"

This netted the silver clasp - it hit and tight as zinc cent. This setup also allowed the heart pendant with faux diamond to come through like a klaxon. It hit as dime and is marked "Gunit," which I believe stands for "G-unit"... some sort of New Age clothing line, I expect.

Beats sittin' at home.

Really old dog tag (2 replies)

I was going over my finds from today and I noticed this dog tag. I didn't pay to much attention to it but after cleaning and doing some research I found out it is actually a 1901 dog tag! There were some laws created back in the day to protect the sheep industry that required dog owners to register and tag dogs to be accountable for any sheep killing. I didn't think this things were that old! Pretty cool stuff I guess. Wonder how many dog years he would be today?

<div id="div_9f679554e03a53da851adb8d139fb84c"
