Dx1 depth question when used with V3i (6 replies)

After reading several posts on forums complimenting the increased depth and convenience using a Sun Ray in-line probe Vs a handheld one, I ordered a new Dx1 from my dealer for my V3i. One of my hunting buddies uses one of the older Sun Ray probes (the longer white colored one) on his older DFX and has told me he gets targets at 3-4 inches easily. After installing the Dx1 on my V3i I conducted an air test using a clad quarter. My V3i; running in the stock coin/jewelry program with sensitivity at 12 Tx boost off, the stock Whites V3i DD coil hits the coin easily at 8 inches and a bit more. When switching to the Dx1 I get maybe 2 inches. My handheld probe (Pro-Pointer) hits the same quarter at 1 1/2 inches. So I am getting about a half inch better depth with the Dx1.

I then took my machine into the field to test it with targets on a previously un-hunted site. The Dx1 could hit wheat pennies and clad dimes at no better than 2 inches. The ground here where I hunt does not have a lot of mineralization (I would call it low to moderate) so I am doubtful that ground balancing the probe before each use would offer any better performance.

Is the depth performance that I am seeing normal or expected? or does my unit need checking at the factory? I just received it and have not even filled out the warranty card.

I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Hey Ralph, yesterday I received my new X-1 probe from a well known dealer and the warranty card is already typed out with someone else's name, address purchased date ect.....on it. In the spot where it says "X-1 Purchased from" has another dealers name in it. I called the dealer (where I purchased it from)and he said he is unaware of any issue like this. He said he buys all the probes directly from SunRay, He also stated he don't open up the boxes to verify everything is in there and can't imagine how this would happen. He did offer to take it back but he don't have anymore since they have been discontinued. I really want a X-1 for my Etrac but they are hard to find brand new now

I was going to call you but you don't have hrs on Saturday

So as of right now I have a new X-1 probe without a warranty, what do I do ?
