It will hold the numeric ID on the screen for a long while even when I know with my T2 there are multiple targets that are within his machines reach. Also, the Delta seems to pick up the iron all the time with its Grunts but nothing else. We have set the machine up for Disc and cranked up the sens in area that always has some brass shell casings and nothing.

Any help would be great!

Thanks again to all on this forum, I have learned alot about my T2 and now all I want to do is put the coil to the soil!

Playing with the T2 LTD (7 replies)

I liked the original T2 after all the updates and now I had to try the new T2 LTD with the new Boost and Cache modes.

I didn't read the manual and was looking for the new modes in the menu. They are "bP" for Boost and "CL" for Cache hidden in the number of tones menu on the Discrimination side.
For my taste the "bP" for Boost can be confusing because it looks like the "dP" tone mode for delta pitch. Also I don't know why the L is in "CL" for Cache mode.....

Well, I'm hard to please but once you know where to find the new modes it is not a big deal. Next the new modes had to proof that they work. How well they work can best be seen if you set sensitivity low to 20-30 and select 2+ tone mode, disk to 0. Now scan your target and next do the same with bP mode selected. The target will sound much louder and larger. Next do the same with "CL" Cache mode. That Cache mode will even find coins very deep and the target size feels more like a belt buckle than a coin. On larger metal the gain in depth is extreme compared to the other modes. So if you are after these buried gold bars this Cache mode is right for you. I thought " It really works, which other detector offers that !?" Well ...just the new LTD's can do that. These two modes make the T2 really better. Due to the large footprint of the targets in these new modes they should not be used in heavy trash.

Andy,NM

Just received it Thursday and having a major problem.. At first I thought it was the batteries, so I went and bought two different name brands and the same thing kept happening. So I checked the battery contacts but they seem fine.. After varying amounts of time the screen goes blank but the tones and so forth still work.. Turn it off and back on and it works normally , I think (new detector haven't used it enough to know).. Seems unstable..I swore I wouldn't buy another FTP but the T2 LTD seemed like a great detector and FTP has come a long ways since then.. I had a very bad experience wit 2 problem F75's.. I sold 2 very nice detectors to purchase this.. I'm a bit frustrated as this is the end of the season here and now have to deal with this.. Help!!
Thanks,
Ray

The wife and I were detecting a large grass parking area. We found the usual change and a beautiful western style silver ring. We also found a girls sr class ring from a town about 75 miles away. The next morning we contacted the school and found the girl had graduated last year but helps out at the school at times. They took our contact info and said they would contact the girl. Just a few minutes later the girls mother called. The ring had been lost several months ago but the daughter had just told her a couple of weeks ago. We mailed it to them this morning. I hope she gets as much of a thrill at getting the ring back as we did in being able to return it.

Field hunt with the Omega (8 replies)

Another great November day up here in Michigan with temps in the mid 50's and little wind it felt almost balmy. I wanted to check out a site that I had hunted last with the T2 to see how the Omega would handle the iron. This year it is planted in soybeans where in the past it had been in corn for several years.

Right away I noticed how much quieter the Omega is in iron with the disc set at 16 which is equivalent to the T2's setting of 21. It's handled the iron so well I found myself switching to 2 tone 0 disc on occasion just to see how heavy the iron actually is and if I had wandered out of the iron filled areas. GB was 70-71 and trying to show one bar on the meter during the ground grab procedure. Another plus is this site has absolutely no interference so the sensitivity could be set up pretty high I was running 90 in the cleaner areas dropping only to 80-85 in the heavy iron with no problems of falsing or chatter. At 90+ you can hear some internal noise but very weak and not a bother.

Finds were not great consisting of 3 small rivets one being a Levis 101, A small brass lid off something that gave the VCO squeal even though it was around 6" deep. I immediately thought of relic hunting with that hit. Based on how the lid sounded off, deep buckles and plates should be no problem for the Omega. A 1901 IH, a 2 piece button with no markings and several other non-ferrous items also turned up during the 3 hour hunt.

The verdict at this site? I like it! the lack of iron falsing compared to the T2 is absolutely amazing. For anyone interested in a high performance quiet in iron detector this one is for you.

Tom

My review of the T2 (12 replies)

Ok I have been out with it a couple of times now. I don't have anything to report on depth because everything that I have found was within 3 or 4 inches. Mostly clad and 1 old butter knife without the handle.

Pros = Great balance on the machine. Even though it weighs as much as the safari, I can swing it for a long time without shoulder pain.

Another pro is the DD coil and pinpointing is right on with it. There is a small spot in the center that looks like it is left over from molding the coil but that is actually the sweet spot.

I like that the headphone jack is on the very back of the battery pack so basically it is on the very end of the machine. The power button is also the volume control so it is not necessary to have inline volume control headphones.

I like the fact that there is a trigger for ground balancing, by pushing forward, and pinpointing by pulling it back to you. The trigger is a neat thing instead of pushing a button. It keeps the face plate clean.

Ok the cons....

You can't notch out things. It is all or nothing. If you want nickles but not pull tabs, you can't choose. If you notch out pull tabs, anything below is also notched out. If notching was available on this, it would absolutely rock in my opinion.
Another con but a very minor one is the volume/power button is on the underside of the battery pack. Not a major big deal because once you turn it on that is all you do with it.

Another con that I would say is a medium one is that it doesn't save your settings after you turn it off. I know it only takes a minute or two to set it up but it would be nice if it saved the settings.

That is about it for now because I really haven't had a chance to use all the settings. I went to the beach on Sunday and tried the 3b tones but wasn't sure that I liked it. That is one of those things that you have to sit and air test a bunch of stuff to get used to the sounds.

The good thing about this machine is that when you hit a coin, you know it is a coin. It has a more solid sound. The iron and garbage sort of sounds raspy.

Unfortunately, this late in the year I am running out of time to give it a true test. It is very similar to my Omega but I do not have the DD coil on the omega. I think if I did, they would probably run neck and neck.

I hear these are pretty pricey and that there are only 300 known of the 11,000 that were minted. The outline of the of the girls head is still visable but no fine detail. (3 replies)

My main interest in trying out the Omega was to see just how good this detector equipped with the DD coil is at handling iron at the older sites I hunt. When the T2 was released I was impressed at it's ability to hunt iron and pick out co-located non-ferrous targets but I was a little put off that for best performance in iron it had to be run in single tone PF process with disc at 21. Reason being, at many of my sites using disc 21 resulted in a lot of the iron falsing as good which forced re-sweeping for proper ID. There was no tonal difference I could pick up on the iron falses to give a clue as to what they were thus all the resweeping. Upping the disc to 22 cut out much of this falsing but also reduced see-thru to some extent. Switch to 2 tone and many of the valid non-ferrous targets now read as iron. The only choice was to put up with the falsing or switch to 2 tone and miss the goodies, Bummer!! For the slow patient hunter (which I can be at times) this was no problem. So the T2, an amazing iron hunting ability but at the price of being somewhat wearing on the user at the settings required for best iron see-thru.

The Omega has 4 tone options and the first two, which the manual describes as being preferred by relic hunters have VCO (pitch and volume) audio. I found these to be my favorites for iron hunting. One tone with disc at 16 eliminates small iron and 2 tone gives a bass tone on accepted iron. Now here is the kicker, using 2 tone does not IMO miss many if any non-ferrous targets that are audible in single tone and the VCO audio, once accustomed to it conveys a lot of information about what is going on under the coil. The result is the ability to hunt iron without the audio fatigue of the T2's PF process and iron falsing is very much less of an issue.

When run hot with the sensitivity in the upper range above 70 the VCO becomes very talkative in heavy iron. It's not what I call chattery as there is valid information coming thru in the audio but it is a lot to process until you get used to it. I have a ways to go for sure to get the best out of what I believe it has to offer performance wise.

Finds wise it did not make every site I took it to seem "virgin" again. I did a short hunt at a homesite that has given up old coins and 3 Civil War store card tokens in the past using several different detectors. The area the tokens came from is very trashy and the T2 scored the last one found. The only find of note here in the short time I hunted was a 3/8" dia lead seal from around 6". Soon after that the caretaker of the property stopped by and we ended up talking about the early white settlers and Indian activity in the area. So much for testing!

At another site that has given up a small quantity of coins from ranging from the late 1800's to 1940's the Omega did very well. This is where a Restaurant/Roadhouse once stood and next to it a single room log cabin gas station which is still standing. It's one of my most "pounded" sites due to it being close to home. I take every new detector there and have used lots of different coil combinations also. In 3 short hours the take was 12 wheat pennies, an aluminum token, a mens tie clip and several other non-ferrous items and this was using the 3 tone mode. On a return trip using 2 tone disc 0, I added 6 more wheats to the take. If it were only a couple coins I could call it a fluke but 18 wheats and probably equal to the total previously taken from there made me a believer in the Omega!

HH Tom

Outing today with my T2 and some nice finds - :cam: (5 replies)

The weather today in Northern Virginia was especially nice, temps in the low 60s and clear skies, following two days of no rain. I decided to get out and check a spot I have had my eye on and try a T2 setting Silverman777 suggested in a post I read only yesterday. He suggested 70, 4, and 2+. I went to a patch of woods located just off what was a route for troop movements during the Civil War. There were no battles, bivouacs, or pickets here, but there was movement and it is close to home so I thought it worth checking out. I ground balanced my T2 at 62 and spent about 2 1/2 hours searching the area. I saw no evidence that any detectorists have been in the area and the ground was relatively clean. I kept the settings Silverman777 suggested and got a fair share of decent signals. Ironically the deeper signals turned out to be junk and the shallower ones turned out to be good targets. I got three good finds. I found a nice Union General Staff button only about an inch and a half deep, very unusual for this area, but there it was. The writing on the back appears to be "Scovills & Co./Waterbury" and is pretty clean. I also found two nice bullets, both Confederate. One is a .54 caliber of Southern manufacturer that was about 4 inches down and the other is a .577 Enfield, at 5 inches, a "C" varient with the number 57 in the cavity. This is a British made bullet that was sold to the Confederacy and while it is not rare, it is not common either and a first for me. The outing was a success and I have to thank Silverman777 for the good suggestion on the settings, they worked very well for me and I will use them in the future. I remain convinced the T2 is the best detectors for the money and I am delighted to continue to learn from this forum and the excellent people who post here. Cheers

T2 LTD finds me a couple of nice relics this weekend (2 replies)

I'm really loving this new detector. Hit a beat to death site this weekend with it and still came away with 2 nice relics. I dug a rare backmarked S Carolina button E.L.Roche. It's not listed by Albert or Tice in either of their button books. This means there weren't enough known for it to be listed making it a rare one and dug only around Charleston. I also got a nice confederate sword hanger. The New T2 LTD is awsome!!

Peter
