If you do a video and it only ever gets a handful of views then monetisation is a waste of time.

I also run Firefox web browser and have Adblock Plus extension installed. I also have the Adblock Plus extension installed on my Android devices. I can't tell you the last time I saw an ad on a youtube video. For that matter I don't see ads on Findmall or any other forum I read on a regular basis.

The Findmall rules means that I don't post videos here, although many may find them interesting or of use. Guess you just gotta find them the old fashioned way!

Go to Gatekeepers video page
Click on Profile Picture
Don't click settings
Go to the "U-tube Col. and click on U-Tube Settings and it will show "Advertisements" and check the box "Do not allow advertisements to be displayed alongside my videos"

Well Im really new to this and trying hard to learn the ropes before I step on my own self. I can't for the life of me figure out yet how to send a private message and now I'm a little confused over the ad thing.
Actually so new I've never swung a detector before...really and being in the entertainment industry thought it would be fun to have a running video diary from the day I purchase a detector. Thats rightdont even have one yet but this site has been a great education. But now not sure I can post or link to the videos as there are ads all over YouTube.

A clarification then maybe some help.
The word Embedded was used. To me...this means it was edited INTO the video. It cannot be taken out. Im assuming this is not allowed. I.e. sponsored by Joes Smiths Metal detecting school on a card edited into the video.

The others are either an overlay or a true view in stream ad. See insert below that is under defaults (Upload) defaults on settings on YouTube.

Sorry...can't figure out right now how to upload a screen shot/picture either. No button on here that I can see; I'll get it soon though...sorry. Only URL.

These are for uploads and can be changed after the video is uploaded.
Overlay is the little transparent ad at the bottom that can be clicked off anytime by the viewer.
True View in stream are the ads that take up the whole page and can be clicked off in 3...2...1...seconds.

So my question is, are all these options off limits or are just the ones "edited" into the actual video?

Alsoif you have just the link...will that be deleted when YouTube puts surrounding ads up or overlays an ad on their site.

Have to admit the more I read the more I realize how much there is to this. Thanks for all the info so far.

I don't have that setting on mine either but it seems like I may have done this procedure before. I looked around in my settings and the only things related to allowing youtube to attach ads were in the 'settings overview' page then 'channel settings' 'Features' tab. Were it says "monetization" it gives the option to allow ads that you could possibly get paid for. I think you have to have a viral video or tons of views to actually get money for the ads.


Upon further searching I found a reference to youtube ads on the video editor page. This reference suggests that "if you use the youtube editor" there may be ads on your video. It mentions "content available through the editor"....I think that could cover any editing whatsoever since it is ALL youtube editing content. Examples would include captions, bubble texts, a clickable link to your other video, ect. This is similar and in agreement with GateKeepers recomendation against allowing youtube to "EDIT" your video to remove shakiness, ect. So ANY editing done within youtube will allow ADS.
