Infinium battery charging A rechargeable battery pack came with the Infinium but does not have any information on how long it takes to charge. I cant see any indicator light that would indicate the batteries are fully charged. Can someone tell me how long do you leave the charger on? And any other advice on using the recharger. I use duracell 2650s most of the time and also DS 2300s. (NiMh)
The 2650s are a firm fit and you need to fit the battery holder with a small cable tie in a loop around the end of the battery holder so that you can pull the batteries out .
As far as detecting time is concerned there is only a difference of a couple of hours between these two battery capacities.

Tried a set of NiCads and they were fine but give very little warning that they are about to go flat and you need to run them flat between charges.
The NiMh bats can be recharged at any time because unlike the NiCads, they do not have a memory effect.

I have not had any charger problems with either the DS or the Duracell batts but I did try a set of 2800mah radio control car batteries (don't recall the brand) and they caused the stock charger to get a bit too hot for my liking.
2100 - 2300 mah batteries seem to be ideal in that they do not overload the charger, they recharge quite quickly and will run the detector for a reasonable time. A set of heavy duty duracell alkalines will probly give the longest running time. Ivanll I have started looking in Tassie to see if I can source the enecharger locally otherwise I can try and get it off the Internet.
Alan I like the notion of the quick charger, it would be very effective when we are travelling and on battery power so Im trying to find an equivalent one in Australia ,at this stage have only found one that has a 1 hour charge time.
Fishers Gohsts I take your point about the higher capacity batteries requiring a more powerful charger. What are your thoughts on the merits of using batteries with capacities over 2000 mah? Do you get longer detecting times?. I have also read that the higher capacity batteries may become a very tight fit in the Infiniums battery compartment.

Even when the batteries have a full charge the charger will keep pumping current through and the batteries will get hot. If you decide to use high capacity batteries say 2650 or 2800mah then the stock battery charger may be a bit overloaded due to the lower internal resistance of these batteries which draw a higher current from the charger than what it was designed to deliver as a continuous output.

This works for me, charge at home or in the car........."enecharger NC8700" available from battery-world or other places in Au.

My charger has no light either, but does have a notice printed on it to allow at least 8 Hours for a complete charge.
