Will a larger infinium coil ever be made?

Its been years since Garrett has done anything with the Infinium.I wish they would improve a few things like a sensativity control ect.But the biggest problem I have is the lack of larger coils like the ones you can get for the minelab units and even the whites unit. One day I will end up getting a sd2200 just for the depth of large coils. The Infinium will only remain as backup and very diffcult ground condition machine(love the ground traking). Also water hunts.
I would love to see a larger 15" or even 20" coil but just dont think it will happen.Dont know why and cannot figure out why someone else has not done so?

Yes some of those features would be nice on the Infinium, like the tones and the auto choose freq scanner. That sure is one cool looking detector. I like the control layout....It does weigh over 6 lbs though, that would have to be changed in a consumer model.

Add some sensitivity to it plus a faster pulse rate and we got a winner for prospecting. That is all I use mine for but it is a dog on small gold unlike the Minelab's and now the TDI performs better on small gold.

Thanks for the pics!

Alan

Took a chance on this model not really knowing what to expect, This deal could have went real bad real quick but luckily she performs well and is waterproof.

(Gold nuggets) Have not tried it out on a gold nugget and wish I could say the Garrett Recon-Pro is super sensitivity to gold nuggets but honestly it's identical to the Garrett Infinium sensitivity wise, What I use for testing purposes is gold jewelry since that is my main type of hunting using a PI for fresh water and ocean surf.

Took her out for a dip the other day, She's waterproof for sure completely submerged her for almost two hours at a local fresh water lake...Was doing a comparison between the Recon-Pro and Infinium, Both did extremely well in the water.

I'll attach a couple of pics, She sure is build tough.

P.S. Let's hope Garrett incorporates if not all at least some of these neat features onto the Infinium, You're going to love the single tone per target feature that alone is a major breakthrough and that is just one of the several neat features they added onto the Recon-Pro.

Thanks Alan!
Paul (Ca)

Many a time have a taken risk only to find out later after testing the equipment the detector fell short....This time, I got luckily.

I can see Garrett incorporating some of these neat features into a future Infinium II model, If anything at least the single tone per target (High or Low) so each target only has one tone not the High/Low or Low/High audio found with the Infinium.

On the Garrett Recon-Pro AML-1000 web site, It says the Recon-pro has an adjustable sensitivity control but with my unit it does not have one and even the manual says it has a preset sensitivity.

Give Garrett some time, I'm sure soon we'll be seeing an updated Infinium II with the single tone feature and maybe other neat features carried over from the Recon-Pro as well.

Let's keep our fingers crossed,
Paul (Ca)

It is possible for Garrett to greatly improve on the Infinium, They already made another Pi version for the military.

Hi bearkat,

I was reading your post and read the part you mentioning Garrett is working on improvements or even a whole new design for the Infinium, Based from what I am seeing on the Garrett Recon-Pro AML-1000 it's a modified updated Infinium.

The Garrett Recon-Pro AML-1000 is such a joy to use, Major improvement over the Infinium.........Performance wise, Both the Garrett Infinium and Garrett Recon-Pro AML-1000 are the about same with maybe an inch deeper with the Recon-Pro. Sensitivity are equal on smaller targets.

The big difference is the target audio, The Infinium gives off either the High-Low tone for low conductive and a Low-High tone for most ferrous, zinc pennies, dimes and quarters.

With the Recon-Pro, Most Ferrous targets, zinc pennies, dimes and quarters give a low tone only. Low conductive signals (nickels, gold rings and such) give off a high tone only.

Because of this one tone feature for each target on the Garrett Recon-Pro, Makes it so much more enjoyable to use and much easier on the ears.

Plus, I experimented with the Infinium coils and they too will work on the Garrett Recon-Pro. They use the same waterproof coil connector but a separate middle/lower rod setup will be needed to use another coil. Each coil has it's own middle/lower rods just need to make up another telescoping lower/middle rod to hold the larger Infinium 10X14" mono coil for ocean wet sand hunting, The Recon-Pro comes with an 8" coil and they do have a larger UXO coil for the Recon-Pro but I'm sure it would cost an arm and leg.

With all this said, The Garrett Recon-Pro is basically an Infinium but has several updated features the Infinium does not have. Once you use the Garrett Recon-Pro AML-1000, It's tough going back to the Infinium.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, If Garrett puts the Recon-Pro AML-1000 features inside the Infinium you guys and gals are going to love it!

Paul (Ca)

I hear they are working on improvements or even a whole new design for the Infinium. I would rather than a larger coil just have it perform better on small gold, because that is the bread and butter and is all that is left out there. A large coil for the Infinium (18" ?) probably would not pick up anything smaller than 1.5 grams. Unacceptable...

If I were you I would get a Whites TDI rather than an SD2200 as the Minelab coils will work with it also and it does better on small gold than the Infinium.

Still patiently waiting on a supercharged for gold Infinium!

I waited 12+ years for the Scorpion to be updated (AT GOLD) its getting close to that for the Infinium (10 years).
