Copper Arrow Point?

I think I might have found a copper arrow point. It was found on private land near a lake on some high wooded ground. It was about 5-6" down in soft sandy dirt. Fortunately I did not damage it. I have looked at some pictures and found a few that look similar. The land I am hunting is in South Central Minnesota not far from known indian rendezvous area. Any experts out there?

The ancient American Indians had extensive trade routes. Here in Central Illinois we can find materials that originate in the Dakotas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and other surrounding states.

There is a confirmed ancient flint mine about 20 miles from where I found the copper. There have been flint arrow heads from this mine found in S. Dakota and Wisconsin so maybe some flint was traded for copper! Thank you all for your replies. Let you know if I find anything else.

HH
Kim

From Austin Minnesota

Is there float copper in your area? If so you might want to detect some of the wooded areas, lake shores, and similar places that are not usually hunted by people with detectors. You might be surprised at how many Copper Culture tools are waiting to be found. Its rare but we have found the occasional Copper Culture tool as far south as South Central Illinois and that is a few hundred miles from the copper source. It is advisable to hunt private property until you are sure of the state laws concerning metal detecting or hunting artifacts on state owned or public property. Congrats on your find.
