todays V3 finds (no replies)

Decided to change it up from my standard civil war relic hunting and visit an old abandoned house today that dates back probably into the 1800's. As suspected, ran into a HUGE amount of trash so I only dug high end VDI numbers. First hole held 3 wheat pennies years unknown and a '52 rosie. After digging quite a bit of trash, I got a good hit that read quarter at 9". Turned out to be a Large Cent, year unknown. Also found 3 memorial cents and a 1980 dime. A little bit later pulled a beautiful 1911 dime out at about 6 inches. Moved out of the grass and into the cut soybean field and pulled out an old buckle and what appears to be a broach of some sort. Unsure if it is silver or not, but it read in the high 80's for a VDI and showed the green bar high. Was getting tired at this point when I ran into my strangest find ever with a detector. Not sure what it was doing in the middle of a cut field in this weather, but there it was. See picture below.

<div id="div_c5a106fa0f30a580161d3f9df25a755e"

I have found many coins hidden among trash that I wound have just passed up with the bigger coil. In fact, Ive been over the same areas that I was in with the bigger coil and now its like your able to really disect the junk from the trash. Heres what I have found, now I may be wrong so please correct me if I am. When I find a coin among trash sometimes it does not lock on, but you still get the tone. I then try for different angles until I get a better signal or tone, then go to pinpoint. During pinpoint I adjust the coil till the green bar is at its longest length, Im pretty sure thats where the coin is...please correct me if Im wrong. Im still in my infant stage of learning this machine, 1 month, about 30 hours and 184 coins ($21.84). HH, Aaron

I have a spot by a hospital that is surrounded by electric lines and transformers everywhere.I have tried several combinations and get no real hunting depth with the V3.About 3 inches is it. About the biggest thing I have found to get it stabilized is to go into the salt frequency.I have used everything from a 5.3 to the stock 10dd.Best coil so far has been a 8 inch excellerator coil.Anybody with some thoughts on this?
Does anyone else use Mixed Mode Pro? (5 replies)

The last couple of times out hunting old home sites in crop fields, I have used Mixed Mode Pro. The only changes I made to the factory program was to use tone ID, minor tweaks in sensitivity and audio pre-amp. I also use all 3 frequencies but I don't remember if that is in the factory program or if I changed it. It seems to be working well for me picking out the non ferrous targets from the iron laden debris field of the typical 1800's home site around here. I've been trying this program out at sites I've already grid hunted with some of my other detectors. Here are a few finds from the last couple hunts. Nothing fabulous but I'm pleased to be digging anything at these sites.

<div id="div_ea4a12f248a01dedd4a0e770093d16da"

Has your gold jewelry finds increased any since you've learned more about using the detector? (6 replies)

I've been reading up on the V3 and am thinking about trading my brand new Explorer II w/Sunray probe and extra coil and a near mint QXT Pro for a nice used V3 if I can find someone willing to trade. I am focusing more on hunting heavy trash sites and recovering gold jewelry (aren't we all!) and it seems that the V3 may do this a bit better. I know all machines read tabs and gold the same and one has to dig everything to get it. My questions are: Have your gold finds increased since learning the machine over using previous models? Have you been able to reduce the amount of "tab" digs to some degree and recover more gold items? I plan on hunting inland areas as no beaches are nearby. The Explorer II is a silver killer and does go deep. However, the readouts on tabs and gold are spread out to where I pretty much have to dig it all as with most machines. I like the fact that you have more info options to analyze with the V3 before you decide to dig. Thanks for your input.

Happy Hunting

Jim
