I doubt there's any problem with the machine. I had a bit of a learning curve with the double d coil before I felt comfortable pinpointing and I'm still not perfect every time. I have heard the concentric coils are easier to learn. Sometimes the coin is tilted and the machine is very sensitive. You can try to lower the sensitivity, but lifting the coil has about the same effect. If there is trash items nearby, these will affect the pinpoint. Metal in your shoes, too. You might go back and watch the training videos again as they show a couple different techniques. They are online at Garrett.

I find a target...press pinpoint and when all the bars are showing at the tip the target should be right there...unfortunately the target is either to the left side of the coil or just in front of where the lower shaft connects to the coil. I have emailed Garrett but have yet to hear back. I guess I'll have to send it in. It sucks when I'm park hunting becaus I end up with these big holes to recover the target...not fun.

When you pinpoint with the pinpoint button it's supposed to be right in front of the lower shaft when you max out the bars. Do it twice at 90 degrees at it will be dead on usually. If you wiggle while pulling back when the signal stops it should be right off the tip.

If the target does not pinpoint well, that is a clue it could be a bottlecap. Use iron audio and the bottlecaps really show up. Surface targets can sound off on the edge of the coil. You can lift the coil a few inches and it will center easier.

I went out for a couple of hours this past weekend and started digging found a penny and a bunch of caps and foil, but I am having trouble pinpointing on many of the targets,I have tried all the different ways to pinpoint. When I get a signal, I pinpoint ,then dig, recheck the hole and still have signal, dig some more recheck and nothing then search the area around the whole get the same type of signal and dig up a cap or tab next to original hole, I have read how the coil works and watched the videos but cant seem to figure out whats happening the signals seem to be repeatable enough. Something else that happens is when using the pinpoint button , you find the peak,move forward or back,the signal doesn't drop off, that doesn't happen all the time but enough to question.Any help would be great before I buy a backhoe and bulldozer.
