Canadian repairs?

Just wondering,I live in canada. My Gbpro needs looking at-only gets 6" max on silver dimes.Would I need to send it to texas for repairs.
I have heard good about fisher repairs and I have a warrenty, having bought the machine new.Im guessing shipping is not paid for.
I just hope not to get any border charges for some reason, did on my last used metal detector(they charged me canadian GST on a private sale.)
Any comments on repair service be great.

Re: Canadian repairs?

Great News Rock Pup, I hope they fixed it for you, now all you have to do is find somewhere not frozen still and test the ground for some deeper targets. Ground is starting to thaw out here (Nova Scotia ) hoping to get out in next couple weeks while the ground is still soft after the winter thaw and rain. You can always expect a few extra inches in wet soils and sometimes those coins that were on edge can be flipped back over to reveal themselves to your New detector, I had a few Gold \bugs in stock but every time I got one someone came along and bought it on me. I bought one for Gold Prospecting when they had the deal with the Free headphones and Prospectors pick in the price, I only got 2 before the deal was over. Unfortunately my customers purchased them from me, I wasn't able to hang on one for myself. All my customers love their New Gold Bugs some are using them successfully on the heavy salt laden beaches here with good results. Anyway maybe soon I'll try a G2 myself as Gold season is just around the corner once the snow clears out of the bush here.
Good Hunting and hope you enjoy your New detector.
A1MTD

Re: Canadian repairs?

Rockpup
Sorry I just reset up my new user name had to change computers and forgot pass word etc from old account. Sorry I missed this at the beginning as I'm a Canadian dealer (Atlantic region) but that don't matter.
What I was just going to tell you was that all dealers in Canada do not offer any repairs service. We have no repair office for any detectors sold in Canada, no matter what manufacturer you choose from.
All repairs are your responsibility as a consumer when you purchase from a Canadian dealer no matter which one. Sorry to bring this news Fisher Labs wants consumers to contact them first for a Authorization number and return number to send with any detector you send back to them for repairs beforehand. I guess you have done this but for anyone else contemplating repairs from Canada this applies to whatever Manufacture brand you choose. We as dealers have no control or say what you have to do but advise you as a consumer what to do for repairs. I will suggest to anyone that sends their detector in for repairs use the parcel post for shipping it as well ask for it back sent also parcel post. Do Not Use or tell the repair department that you want it sent back only by U.S. Parcel Service. This info is for your own benefit, Canadians get ripped off every day by Brokers and once you deal with other shippers like UPS or FedEx or any other ones Brokers will get involved in your shipment and charge you big fees for them declaring the items for you. Once they get a hold of your parcel there is nothing you can do about it, you are at their mercy! So for your benefit even though it's slower use Canadian Parcel Post Ground for shipment their and U.S. Parcel Post for returns. Just out of convenience companies like to use UPS or other courier shippers as taking a parcel to the post office now days might make them some extra work, so they use the more convenient for them all they have to do is pick up the phone and a driver comes and picks up your parcel. But, unfortunate for you your pocket books suffers the most for getting these brokers involved.

I'm not sure where this break is you are talking about you said it was not at the connector end of the coil, where is it at the coil end ? The rubber boot coming out from the coil we are not clear on this either? Better contact 1st Texas again and see what they say about this, maybe you can use some silicone around that point if that's where the break is, I'm not sure if it would be safe at that point of submerging it in the water id this is the case. Sorry to hear about your problems Fisher is a great company and they stand behind what they sell so let them know what's wrong, I know shipping across the border is expensive etc. we are at the mercy of all of them no matter which company you choose most all are made in U.S.
A1MTD

It came back with a broken cable holder thingy. This was not broken when I sent it in.It is just cosmetic, its the thing near the coil that keeps the wire from bending. It Does how ever effect the resale value and it was not broken when it was sent away for repair.

It was a fast repair job.Not sure if it did get repaired now.Its 2 snowy to do any testing at the moment, but judging on how they sent it back with a broken cable thing I will not be surprised if they did anything at all to it.Not to mention how quick it was.

I will have to do some testing to prove that it was fixed (I hope they did that at least) but I am pretty upset over the broken coil, why and now Im stuck with it like this.

I hope this problem can be corrected with out costing me more in shipping (I live in canada).

Yes, lots to explore around here and I'm looking forward to getting started this spring. The old west comes alive when you actually start handling the artifacts. I'm stoked about spending so much time on the land.

So I'm in the process of selecting a first detector and headphones. A bit of a chore really. I figure there is one top drawer unit to buy and I have my sights on it for my next purchase, meanwhile I need to focus on a more financially practical entry point than a $2K DEUS, so I'm thinking of the Teknetics G2 along with Killer Bee Wasp headphones. While evidence seems to indicate otherwise, I'm hoping to do a bit of yellow rock exploring too. It'll be fun to try.

I haven't figured out how to PM or message you on this forum as yet, it's a bit different from the ones I'm familiar with. Where are you located?

You should be doing better than that, unless your soil is just AWFUL. These machines are REALLY pretty doggone deep, especially in all-metals mode...

Steve

When the ground is damp my Gold Bug Pro w/ 11dd & 10dd hits these. You have to listen for that tiny high tone and check it out. I like checking those out now in all metal. If the ground is dry you will loose a couple inches in depth. Hmm, so if the ground is bone dry it would probably be better to hunt in all metal.

Rick N. MI

Did you try all metal mode??

Coins hit better in the ground than in the air all machines manufacturers will tell you that. After being in the ground for a while it will leach into the surrounding soil and create a halo effect and makes it easier to see an object deeper and the ground being moist will add to that also giving you even more depth.

I wouldn't just go by that air test.

Where were you when you did the air test, and how high was the sensitivity, and how big is the coil, and was the machine ground ballanced etc. these all play into it due to EMI and your surroundings while doing so if indoors instead of being outdoors.

I personally don't do, like, or trust air tests myself.
