Gold Bug II Chipped Lot Demonstration

I wanted to share some of my Gold Bug II hunting techniques while hunting chipped lots. I know the gold is small but that what's lost the most and it adds up quickly. Well as luck would have it Murphy's Law hit me. I hunted 3 parks and at the last park my camera was set to capture photos instead of videos causing me to miss capturing the 10k gold ring and 925 silver earring detection. Oh well I'll try capturing a gold target on video next weekend. I hunted 2 chipped lots and one sand lot, the sand lot was clean as a whistle
The ring is either a toe ring or a baby ring. I'm going fast in the video which is typical of how I hunt chipped lots but I normally grid the areas under the play apparatus more carefully. I'm checking almost every target using the iron ID mode before I dig

I did not hit the chiups this past weekend because my head phones played out,. I hafe to send them in for repair or do it myself but in the mean time I'm going to purchase anothe pair. I can't seperate the sounds with low end head phones.

Thanks for the report.

Hi jotram, I purchased my Gold Bug 2 as a tool for my dry washing operation. But I soon found out that it involved much labor to dry wash every weekend, especially when it turns out that I was making under minimum wage with the gold I would find.

keep at it and good luck.

This particular playground is one that I usually hit every couple of weeks and have hit multiple times with a variety of detectors. It has a larger play structure and a smaller kid structure. I found a broken section of a 14k gold chain that weighs 2 grams. I could not find the other piece. It was two inches under the wood chips directly under the smaller play structure.

About 25% of the trash was dug at the beginning as I was evaluating the sounds then digging to see if my interpretation was correct or not. I then started selectively digging based on your techniques and even got a little aggressive with the wood chips. After finding some recent drops as well as a couple of older drops right next to the poles, I hit gold. It was a semi good sound, a little better sounding than the small foil. Overall, I don't think I dug much trash than I normally do.

Thanks for your tips, video and answering my many questions on the Gold Bug 2. Here is a pic of my finds for about an hour of detecting.

It took me 7 months to learn what the GB II was saying, that was every weekend at least 8 hours a day. High quality headphones will immensely help differentiating tones and sounds.

Hi John(Tx). I'm using the 10 1/2" coil or whatever coil is closest to that size. I always hunt with the sensitivity set at its highest (10) unless the machine won't balance; I hunt with the volume at 10 too, I have the volume on my headphone all the way up, I turn the threshold up until I can just hear it clearly, then I turn the volume down on my headphones to a comfortable level. I can almost sense when the coil will pick up a pole or large metal object, and sometimes a target may be heard over or with a pole or large metal object. I'll capture a gold target on video next weekend, well we'll see...

Tony
