Return to The Friends & Finds Forum
If you've been a "lurker" and have liked what you've read, and have decided to participate in our Friends and Finds forum, WELCOME. We are a pretty friendly laid back group who have grown to know each other and consider each other not only as friends but almost as family members.
We all started out on other detecting forums and got tired of all the "drive by's" unnecessary negative / critical (not humorous) comments, all the "my machine is better than yours" comments, and the gestapo like rules that all posts must be detecting related. After trying out several forums over the years, many of us regulars decided to move as a group and enjoy this forum.
The only thing all participants of this forum have in common is we all enjoy metal detecting ... any type of detecting ... on the land, in the water, for anything fun to find.
Topics on this forum can be anything that would and could be discussed around the family dinner table, yes, including metal detecting. We kid each other, we enjoy photo edits of each other, we help each other, we share good news / bad news, we brag about our children and grand children, we offer a bit of "lite" political opinion / humor, and sometimes we even post photos of our detecting finds. As fair warning, the majority of this forum participants tend to be more conservative than liberal in their thinking.
Here are some forum user tips that will help insure your forum experience remains a good one that you and all the other forum participants will enjoy:
- It is not necessary to post your opinion or reply to every post someone else makes. Of course it's OK to do so if you have something to say that enhances the subject or entertains the other forum users.
- Many of the forum participants have been long time forum friends and sometimes may post to each other what newer people on the forum may deem to be inappropriate or critical, when in fact, it's just two friends kidding each other. Please don't let it bother you. If you are "thin skinned" about being kidded or don't have a decent sense of humor, you will likely not be a long time participant of this forum.
Some people live their lives with much more levity than others and all of us have differing senses of humor. In your own family, you may not like all of "Uncle Joe's" dinner table humor, but in the majority of instances, you certainly wouldn't want or need to dress him down about it in front of the whole family.
If the person for whom the post was intended does in fact take offense, trust us, he or she will respond appropriately on the forum or in a private message.
From time to time, you will see a public apology over a post that was poorly worded that unintentionally offended someone. All participants know there is a "REPORT" icon on the top of each post when opened so anyone can "report" what they think is inappropriate.
- When responding to a post, please highlight the original post subject matter, then delete it. Often times, your entire response can be typed into the subject line thus saving all other forum users from having to open the post to read it. If your reply needs to continue into the body of the post, that's great, go ahead and post what you think will be informative or entertaining. Even if you just want to respond with only a smiley, post it in the subject line, not in the body of the post.
- If you are being kidded about something, that means another forum participant is welcoming you and is encouraging you to respond back. It's almost like the cute new gal in grade school has her pony tail pulled by a class mate who would like her to like him because she is cute and perky!
- Do not attempt to change the nature of the forum. If you suddenly realize you want more detecting info and less humor, then don't respond to what you don't like, post what you are interested in or ... find a new forum that better suits your needs and interests. This forum has grown by leaps and bounds over the years and is one of the most posted on forums because ... it is the way it is.
- No question is too dumb or basic to be asked, particularly if fellow forum participants can help someone new to the hobby or forum in any reasonable way.
- It is inappropriate to advertise any new or used product or service on this forum unless you are a forum sponsor. There are many other "classified for sale" sites where your stuff ought to be sold.
Thank you
