when i got my se i didn't give conductive much of a chance in ferrous all metal you don't have so many targets to look at in conductive seems like every thing sounds good and every target must be looked at if you run iron mask to thin it out it starts to null so which is deeper is there a time for conductive

I like ferrous with the SE because I use pitch hole and the in conductive don't work.

Ferr is great for those iron ridden areas..... but i prefer cond otherwise. The position of the smartfind and digital are based on the cond or ferr reading which ever you are in. I think you will notice that there are too many factors that affect the ferr numbers.... while the cond ones are more stable. Also if i remember correctly when in Ferr there is a larger variance in the tones at the lower scale while in Cond the variance occurs in the upper scale. Either can be learned and be very affective... so who is to say which is better. Id suggest being flexible and use the one that best suits the area you are hunting.

I'd say if you mainly do coin hunting.. Get used to the conductive sounds, it just takes some time.
Now if your more into digging everything none ferrous, or maybe relic hunting use Ferrous sounds.:detecting:

I've been wondering about ferrous and conductive also on my XS..... is all it does is just change the way things sound (move low tones from left to bottom and vice versa) or does it also perhaps move a signal croisshair from where it would be in conductive to somewhere totally different in ferrous ? the reason I'm asking is because it seems like more and more rusty nails keep appearing where silver should be and I keep finding my silver dines down in the area where Mike Mourtay's screen has bullets listed..... and what in the heck is the "const" setting for ? is that constant ??? I haven't tried it at all because no one ever mentions it. I just recently set up my Explorer XS based on the settings posted years ago from Charles in Upstate NY, but now I can't find where I got the link.... does anyone know where to find those posts ??? Thanks!!
