Using Explorer SE for silver hunting

:detecting: I think I have found out why I don't find silver as often as a couple of my buddies. I have been waiting for the cursor to settle in the classic positions before digging or at least bouncing around near the classic positions on the smartfind screen. While playing around with some silver coins in my back yard I found that when I raised my coil to 6 inches or more the cursor would move around or lock in a different position on the screen when deeper than 5 or 6 inches. So what I have been doing is finding the rare shallow silver coin. I now know that when deep hunting you must pay special heed to the depth and sound of the coin wherever the cursor is located or jumping on the screen. I now I will dig a little more trash but I am sure more silver. Please correct me if I am wrong. This is using the SE Minelab of course. Thanks in advance

Use the tone and then the cursor and the silver will have a very high tone if you have it set right.

Yes, that is a good starting point to see how deeper ones sound, you might also want to bury coins at different depths and see how the signal sounds and raise your coil while sweeping.
The deeper signals many times have an abbreviated sound of a good strong hit.
It is also helpful to watch the cursor while detecting and digging some of the more iffy ones, you should see a pattern.
The really deep iffy signals is something that you will have to go by trial and error and not rely as much on the cursor readings.
There are websites showing which cursor readings to go for on the deep ones but your experience in your ground will be
the best thing to go by.
I think it is better to take this in stages until you are comfortable with the results you get, that is don't go for every iffy really deep
signal right away, dig some of the more reliable signals first.
Those signals that repeat on more than one angle are the more reliable ones.
Try different sweep speeds over the iffies too.

Hey Steve, By "really deep" ones, how deep would that be?
