Ghost Town Trip with Impact

I went on the annual Memorial Day ghost town rendezvous whereas treasure hunters from all over the west (Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, etc) meet up for a fun filled, adventure packed long weekend of thrill seeking and treasure hunting of various types, mainly detecting and sifting some of the ghost town dumps. This annual event has apparently been going on since the 1960's, so one can imagine that finds are definitely thinning out, but on every trip people still make interesting finds.

I both detected with my Impact and did a couple of days of sifting, and here's my results.

Group shot:

Civil war union army camp is still producing, albeit very stingy with coins!

This was a BIG surprise, it's an 1887 British large cent, counter stamped token found sifting in the desert. It was about three feet deep and was in the same hole as the clay Bennington and Agate glass marble. It needs further research to see figure out who the person was counter-stamped on it, and if they were a saloon proprietor or how they fit into western history.

Anyone have any ideas what this is? Almost looks like a belt buckle type of do-dad???

Overall a fun extended weekend to hang out with old and new friends, and good finds were made by all :)-D

HH,
Cal

That coin was only three foot deep? How did you hear it? Were you detecting with a large coil?

That was found while sifting. Also found some bottles while sifting, one is a 100+ year old pill bottle with a mostly still intact paper label. Gotta love arid, high desert ground!

Nice finds Cal Cobra, looks like you had a fun and exciting trip. The 1887 large cent is a neat, unexpected find.

Very unexpected find. Some nice tokens were found by others, but I didn't get one this trip.

Looks like you did pretty well on the WTHO trip, I'm going to try to make the fall one if I can get away for a few days :detecting:

Brian
