First hunt with the Nokta Impact

Got out to a old farm house yard today with the Impact. I did ok considering that I'm new to it. Mostly used the DI4 program, FeVol 1, 14Khz, disc 3, tracking 01, gain at 70.
The small buckle was in the hole with the bent nail. Above them is a small brass rectangular buckle. The eagle had it's wings broken but it was cool to find it. 5 Wheaties.
A little chatty at 70 but not too bad. I am wondering about TID's as the Merc came in around 76-78 and the chart that I have says that dimes would come it around 85 at 14Khz. It's a chart I saw on TomD's site so maybe it's an old chart, I'm not sure. Otherwise the Impact worked fine.

Nice work! That's a great first hunt. I think you will really like your Impact the more that you use it. Keep the pics coming!

So far Mudwhale I don't know what they are. at first I thought it was parts to a cap pistol but now I don't know.

Nice finds.

Remember gain setting can affect TID accuracy.
Meaning higher likely will give more accurate.

How deep was the dime??

Nice thing with Impact you can set up say 2 tone mode with high gain like 90 plus,, and use to check targets.
Can use general D mode too.
Deep mode can be used on deeper targets for better ID too.
Just toggle over and check and toggle back to hunt program.

I am having a heck of a time with the TID on this machine. Can't make out any consistency yet. Today a used DI4, 14K, had to lower gain to 60, disc 3, tracking on, and dimes were coming in around 78. switch to deep, 14K, disc 10, tracking on... and dimes would come in around 84. So which one do I believe? of course I dug 'em all and most were cents, only found one red dime. I've got a long way to go to get with this machine. thanks for the tips.
Merc was only about 5-6 inches. heard it loud and clear but again it was around TID of 78.
it's great to be able to switch programs so easily to check on targets.... once I figure out which one is the one to believe. lol...

One thing I like about Impact is the iron tone reporting.
What am I really talking about?
If you get a target with questionable TID, listen to iron tone as coil is positioned around possible suspect target.
You hear the iron tone trying to quickly roll in,,these are the targets that are likely getting masked to a rather high degree, hence don't put as much stock in the TID.
20khz use on a target after locating with 14khz might shed some more light as well.

I often find targets using 20khz, if after detection, If I switch to 14khz the signal degrades or almost disappear, or even switch to 5khz and this happens, this means a lot of times a very masked target.
A target btw a lot of folks could have swung over and never heard.

Let the tools on the Impact help you discern the masking level.

For example,,I when testing Imoact Inwould intentionally go to where Etrac and CTX users had pounded including me.
I had a pretty good idea if I ever got over a solo sitting target(could hear no iron tone whatsoever trying to come in when pivoting around target it was likely junk.
But if I got a target even with less than stellar ID but could hear the iron tone cramping the target, I would dig these and find some worthy finds.

I do also use 20khz to locate things, I'll switch to 5 khz (non normalized Vdi selected)!if I see 60 plus in the window I'll dig every time.
And I'll bet you won't find much junk by doing.

The reason I stick with DI99 is because you learn every sound this machine makes over all metal in the ground. I use zero disc and love the sounds this machine speaks. I have learned what every sound means now by VDI and sound. I have never found so many nickels before because of the accuracy of the signals I get. I personally like all the information I can get. The VDI numbers are the same across the board except for GEN modes and DEEP.

Gen,Gen(D), STA, STA (D), Deep, VLX1, VLX2 have one set of VDI numbers along with an Iron scale of 0-40
DI2,DI3,DI4,DI99, COG have another set of VDI numbers along with an iron scale of 0-15

That is what I meant about the 2 different scales the Impact uses. I am sticking to the 0-15 scale modes so I don't get really confused. So far DI99 and DI3 have worked the best for me learning this machine. I wish DI4 had the same audio adjustments as DI3. I think that would be my favorite mode for coin hunting as far as TID and audio. I have only tried GEN(d) mode a couple of times. Over time I will try the other modes in the 0-40 scale. I have read that some folks like the VLX modes for coin hunting. When I tried these modes it just confused me because of the different scale. My intent is to get good at one scale and then work on the other one. This is my K.I.S.S. method for learning the language of this machine. I have learned that a slow swing speed is working the best for me especially in DI99 mode. If I swing too fast it's just a lot of noise with jumping TID's. By swinging slow it really separates the signals. I have been running with a sens of 90 with no background noise increase over the factory default of 70. A lot of the places I have been hunting only show 1 bar on the mineral graph if that. The only problem I have had is coil overload a few times from really shallow targets.

BTW...Between YOU, Squirrel1 and TNS there is a wealth of knowledge here on this forum. Thank you all for all the help and sharing!!!
