I Love this Detector!

Had the chance to run the Impact on some tough part black, packed down sand yesterday. While I didn't find any gold I was very impressed by the capabilities of this machine. I just love the way it transitions on and off iron. Now that Ive gotten some practice--I can hear anything that has non-ferrous content by running the D2 or Deep modes. It's also great that this machine can be run at very high Gain settings. This got me some very deep coins and other great signals that others had obviously missed. I also tried some Gen (D) hunting and this mode was very deep too. I learned to listen for anything with extension and a clean tone. At 20 kHz mid-tones came up really well--great gold potential. This detector performed well at what is the most heavily hunted section of beach in Canada--I felt that I had a real advantage and that a full days hunt would produce some gold--even at season's end.. I'm also wondering what the big coil would add to this performance. One thing I've learned is when you open up the Impact, just the audio really lets you tell what is what. I was just shocked by how deep some of these one and two-dollar Canadian coins were in this hard-packed material. Great beach performer. This is a detector that I don't even have to find anything with to have a good and interesting hunt--I just love listening to it.

And it does find small silver, just check out the small silver sequin I found last Sat at Port Stanley Beach. Found some silver as well that day at our clubs seeded beach hunt. Found a .22 cal short shell about 4" down near the waters edge as well as the silver ring. This beach also has black magnetic sand mixed in with the reg. sand. When I use the Impact, I feel as if the detector is doing all the work, I just have to swing, listen to what its telling me, dig and retrieve the target.

Self built Mirage Pi's --- they work great in trashy areas!!

That's what I like too, Sven--the non-ferrous / clean meta audio bias. As much as I like being able to notch or disc for gold and silver, "wide open" and with high Gain settings there is a lot of information in just the tone. Nice hunt, good luck clive.

This detector has the best separation, tone quality and stability in very highly mineralised ground of any VLF detector that I know..GEN or all metal mode has an option to select two tones,a low tone and high tone. Hot rocks and iron give such rich tones ( like a quacking duck) as to put a smile on my face within a minute of starting it up. At 20 Khz. it is very sensitive to small shallow gold items.14 Khz. not so much but better on silver.
My favorite is DEEP mode as it is the most powerful. With the default tone break setting of 40 it was not masking out ferrous objects,so I set it to 20. !5 is too low as it will also mask out gold.DEEP mode gives more frequent and stable ID numbers than GEN mode.GEN mode is the most stable in very high mineralisation but DEEP is a little more chatty but of little significance and sensitivity may be reduced to 63 if wished.DEEP at 20 will use up batteries faster but will also give deeper targets of !.5 inches or so at twice the depth of GEN mode.I don't mind digging up all the high conductive targets so as to find the deeper ones.I always use tracking mode with DEEP.
Extreme mineralisation patches ( 100% on the meter) of 2 feet in diameter will cause all the discrimination modes to give a false signal, and only GEN mode will identify them as a patch. These patches are found in some goldfields.
