Just Bought A New Impact...Very Excited!

I have run a lot of different machines over the years and I can't think of any machine I have been more excited about using. I have done a lot of research and feel it's going to open up many old sites. My question is this.... There are many claims of this machine being super deep and then I see the claims that it is no deeper than an F75 or T2 SE. I hope that is not the case. I currently run a T2 and was hoping the Impact would have a little more balls in the depth department. I didn't buy it simply for it's depth claims, but that was one of the factors. It'll be here Tuesday, so until then I'll just keep reading. I live in SE Pennsylvania, so soil runs moderate to heavy mineralization.

It does in my mild ground. Deepest detector I've had.

Thank you. I do have some mild soil in the area. I average ground balance around 63-72 on my T2.

My Impact is deeper than my CTX, AT Pro (sold), and F75 (sold).

My fors core is deeper than my ctx in my opinion...Is the Impact any deeper than the Fors?

In my test garden, the Impact and CTX hit about equal. Out in the field, my deepest targets were from the Impact in which I hunted 100 times prior in the same field as the CTX.

The Fors Core did not do as well in my garden as the Impact and CTX. With the 15" coil the Core was able to hit everything without an issue and bested the CTX with the standard coil.

If you like the T2 with its limitations, you will enjoy the Impact with all its features and adjustments. As much as I like the T2, its hard for me to grab one over the Impact when going hunting.

Quest Pro & Q40, Nokta Impact
Self built Mirage Pi's --- they work great in trashy areas!!

Same here. My main detectors are the Impact and modded Lobo ST.

My Relic & T2 Classic aren't getting much use.

Anxious to get the 7" concentric for the Impact and to compare the Impact and the Equinox.

The Impact is the best VLF detector for very high mineralisation currently on the market. It also has outstanding separation and quality of tonal sounds.Hence it is ideal for use in goldfields as well as beaches.GEN mode with discrimination option is outstanding for searching small shallow gold down to 0.1 gram and identifying hot rocks and iron by tones.DEEP mode is the deepest seeking mode and will go easily twice as deep as GEN mode. With the right tone break setting it is ideal for non trashy goldfields as it has only two tones. However the ID numbers are much more stable and numerous than in GEN mode.In very high mineralisation GEN ID numbers vary considerably and are next to useless whereas DEEP mode produces much more stable numbers due to the strong signals. On beaches DEEP at 5 and 14 Khz. would go deepest for silver, whereas on goldfields DEEP at 20 Khz. would go deeper on gold nuggets.Tracking mode is the way to go in very high mineralisation and will save re balancing every 5 minutes.

What is the best way to determine the best tone break setting in different modes?

It all depends what you are trying to mask out and what you are looking for.
For example if you want to mask iron and detect signals for 22 carat gold .Place iron and gold separately on the ground. I only use DEEP mode and the default setting of 40 gives a signal for each.Reduce tone break to 15 and both iron and gold will be masked out.Increase it to 20 and iron will be masked but gold will be signalled.I think you can set different tone breaks simultaneously to exclude other metals but as I have only been detecting in relatively clean goldfields my only concern are hot rocks full of iron oxide and rusty nails.I will be going detecting on beaches soon so will have to learn how to mask out pull tabs.Maybe some expert can give us some advice.

Thank you! I have never had a machine with adjustable tone break. I have had many machines over the years, just none with adjustable tone break. I have a funny feeling that that problem with the quarter was because it was freshly buried. The machine seems to run fine. I was messing with settings and some air tests last night and it seems to work just fine. I know air test aren't accurate, but it's shows the machine is transmitting power. I went to sites that I hadn't found stuff in years, so the problem was lack of targets not machine error. I did find a sweet silver baby spoon at the last site. It was in the far back corner of the field. I am surprised I missed it with my other machines, but we all know that you don't get it all. It was about 6-7 inches down and sounded off like a trash can lid. I tried to upload pics, but they are too big.

Your very welcome. I was daunted by the prospect of tone breaks and have been using GEN mode but when I saw DEEP goes twice as deep on coin sized objects I decided to learn to use the tone break settings for prospecting. An Impact user in the UK told me he found a pea size bit of silver at 15 inches depth in DEEP mode.If your sites are not loaded with trash it might be worth you using it,otherwise use the 3 or 4 tone modes.PI,s have cleaned up all the deeper gold nuggets here and DEEP mode gives me a better chance to find ones they may have missed.
