At least with the Impact I am back up and running! :hot:

I started out October with a theft of five of my all-time favorite detectors from my Chevy Tahoe, every search coil I had for two Impacts, with the exception of the 14X15.5 DD, and all of my Relic search coils that were all in two Nokta backpack detector bags I was using to tore all my accessories. I am still holding out hope that the custom powder coated Relic's and CoRe will show up to be recovered, and the Impact, but out of everything stolen, the one I felt most compelled to replace in my Regular-Use Detector Team was the Impact.

As of Friday evening, I have added a new Impact Pro Pack back into my arsenal as well as all of the other search coils I want and need for it, giving me now a complete package of Nokta coils. I just need one more lower Impact rod and four middle Impact rods to have my accessory coils all mounted and ready for a quick change afield. I also outfitted one of my plastic totes to carry all my extra search coils and rods instead of bags, then sat down Friday evening to adjust all of the 12 modes for the program settings I like and get them saved.

For the bulk of the sites I search, the 7" Concentric coil is my favorite and most used so I mounted it on the Impact I had left at my son's shop. The new Impact currently sports the new open-frame 5X9½ DD for slightly better coverage and working some of the sports fields I get to during the winter season when the higher elevation ghost towns and the like get snowed in. When I shift to hunting the nastiest of nasty iron choked old places, that Impact will have the round 5" DD attached and be ready-to-grab.

I also noticed with this new Impact that the good folks at Nokta are alert to anything they feel might make a little improvement in their detector design because two of the new lower rods have the coil cable insert-hole on the right-hand side of the rod instead of on the bottom side. Also, the hole is slightly larger to help eliminate any binding, and the lower plastic section is redesigned with a plastic rim or shroud, if you will, to keep the middle rod from pinching the coil cable when the two rods are shortened to their extreme. Nothing really wrong with the original design and I haven't had any issues with it, but it shows a continued effort to ensure they are producing one of the best detectors in the industry.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts about how much I like the Impact. Very comfortable to handle, well balanced, quite versatile, and they have provided an exceptional array of search coils for it to suit anyone's need or wants. Unless they get stolen, which I hope certainly hope never happens again, my Impacts are never going to be replaced. They are, and will remain, permanent fixtures in my Regular-Use Detector battery. Those who have them and have learned them know what I mean and can share the excitement of putting them to work in any detecting adventure they can imagine on land.

Just want to wish fellow Nokta detector owners the best of success when they venture afield as 2017 is drawing towards an end.

Monte

PS: The wishes for enjoyment and success includes all those who, like me, also use and enjoy the FORS CoRe and FORS Relic models as well.

I'm glad you are up and running again Monte. Your contributions have been priceless to me.

I hope you will find your custom Relic and CoRe. They are quite unique and unless somebody goes through the effort of taking the custom paint off, they will show up somewhere.

Good to hear your up and running

The side hole in the lower rod is a plus.
On the orig. lower rod---
When I collapse the lower rod into the upper tube, the cable that sticks out of the hole in a loop that extends beyond the 7" coils backside. When lying down the cable rests on the ground , as it can't be pushed into the lower rod. Afraid I will eventually abrade the coil wire jacket. keeping an eye on it.

Who has the newer lower rods for sale?

Monte - I'm happy to hear you've got another Impact. I received the 7" Concentric coil but only had a chance to try it for a few minutes. I think it will be my most often used coil.

spend the $$$ to have the powder coating stripped from the rods, or even take the upper rod apart to do so. I'm just going to hold out hope that they will turn up somewhere and I can get them back. In the meantime, I still have at least one each of my favorite Nokta's in my arsenal, and the 7" Concentric on my main-use Impact makes my favorite general-purpose combination.

Sven, for me, the best lower-rod adjustment on the Impact is at the

1" mark, That would be the 2nd marker from the end with the '1' being in the middle between the adjustment marks. That's enough to keep the lower rod from inserting in too much and eliminates the middle rod 'pinching' or 'binding' on the coil cable.

The newer side-positioned coil cable access hole on the lower rod is a little larger, on the side where the cable comes out of the coil, and does make a better 'fit' without the ability of the middle rod binding on the coil cable when the lower rod is collapsed.

I have no clue if Kellyco has the newer style lower Impact rods. I know that I called them several times, speaking with different 'salesmen', and they didn't have the Impact 5" DD coil in their inventory or in their catalog. They also don't show middle rods for the Impact, and I want to order four of them. The newer style rods I got came from an e-bay dealer in Turkey. I guess you can call any dedicated Nokta Dealer where you might purchase and see if they have the newer style.

My 7" Concentric and 5X9½ open-frame DD coils are currently mounted on my two Impacts using the original lower rod design, as are my 14X15½ and 4X7½ DD coils that are in my tote. The two newer-style lower rods are also in my accessory coil tote with the 5" DD and 7X11 standard DD coils mounted. I will keep an eye open myself for a couple more of the new style just to have on-had.

That, naturally, is the 7" Concentric coil, but I do enjoy putting all the Impact's coils to work when situations favor them.

By 'both' I am referring to the Nokta 7" Concentric coil, which you now have and just need to get out and put into action.

I am also certain that you'll enjoy the fall & winter weather you get down your way, as well. By 1 PM today we reached 47°, whereas you're up around 80° coming off a low of about 60°. Oh, how I envy you and your seasonal weather as I look ahead. At least when I can get away to hunt once it warms up enough in days and weeks and months to come I will be using the best coil on the best detector for serious multi-purpose detecting.

I got the lower rod that I purchased for the 9.5x6 coil from KellyCo. I don’t remember if the hole was on the side or on the bottom of the rod. I checked, and they do have the lower rods in stock right now.

Monte glad that you're back in the saddle :detecting: Hope your equipment turns up, I suspect with it's unique customization, someone will spot it.

Just returned from a desert detecting trip, winter is quickly setting in, luckily my Toyota FJ equipped with 4 wheel drive and Goodyear AT tires was allowed through the CHP check point charlie during the snow storm last weekend. I'll be posting a trip report once we get our finds cleaned up and photographed.

Desert detecting with snow in California already?

And I thought all the 'snowbirds' loved to head south to escape the colder and whiter wintry weather ... and it's only early November!

Maybe the Phoenix/Mesa area in Arizona could provide a better weather escape from winter? Is your FJ that bold yellow color like David G.'s or something less eye-catching?

Best of success when you can get out and I look forward to seeing your recoveries.
