Makro Gold Racer - Tot Lot Find

Pretty impressed with the Gold Racer today in the chips. Loud, solid tone and numbers (don't recall now) at 2" easy using the small elliptical. Try as I might I couldn't find the rest. Only $8 in melt value (4.8 grains using my powder scale) but it's nice to know it'll hit hard on the small stuff.

Makro's Gold Racer - A killer small-target finder!

I do a lot of switching between using the round 5½" DD and the 5½X10 DD based upon the site environment. I need to get that smaller elliptical coil (the GR19 4X7½ DD) for my Gold Racer for a number of places I hunt. Kind of a happy medium in size and functionality.

The Gold Racer is an exceptional performer as it isn't just a great pick for smaller-size Gold Specimen Hunting or hitting urban Jewelry Hunting places, but I have even grabbed it just for fun in some of my heavily littered old Relic Hunting sites where iron abounds.

Best of continued success using your Gold Racer!

Monte

I've been grabbing it now when I head to town for an appointment, shopping, etc and I only have a short time to hit park chips. I've been keeping the 4x7 coil on but the 5x10 is always in the case; I like how easily it pokes in and around the low bushes too. I still use the CTX for planned deep silver outings or inclement weather but the Gold Racer has it's place and goes along for most road trips.

Is the Gold Racer lower shaft the same as the Racer lower shaft? Was thinking of ordering another coil but wanted to have it loaded to an extra shaft.

Thanks.

Yes, same lower rod size.N/T

How much more sensitive is the smaller elliptical search coil? Would you consider it the most sensitive of all the coils?

Like most coils the smaller coils are most sensitive to the smallest gold.
The stock coil will hit a gold ring deeper than the 4x7coil.
The 4x7 coil will hit finds like above and a gold stud earring deeper than the stock coil.
I like covering all options so therefore have both coils. If you think in terms of $ the small coil finding micro jewelry that the stock coil might not find doesn't make a lot of sense unless you're in an area where micro gold loss is common. I suppose separation is better also but the stock coil does very well.

How does the large ( 15.5" x 13") Gold Racer coil perform in heavily mineralized ground?
How about overall performance in all gold hunting areas? Is it worth getting especially at that price?
Thanks.

'nuff coils,' if you're asking me, I haven't a clue.

I have used the 13X15½ DD coil on the 14 kHz Makro Racer and Racer 2, and the same size coil on the 15 kHz Nokta FORS CoRe.

I have never used, nor can I think of a need for, that size coil on the 56 kHz Gold Racer. My Gold Racer's only get put to work with the 5½" to 5½X10 DD coils because those are the coils I find work the best for me as these LF detectors excel on responsiveness to lower-conductive targets, especially smaller-sized targets. They were not intended for bigger-size/deeper-detection performance such as Cache Hunting or some Relic Hunting applications where a larger-than-stock coil could provide some benefits.

Monte.
