You (as in you & I) will do better when we get those Sniper coils for our CoRes Gregg!!!!!---Even if they're running at 15 kHz!!:lmfao:

LOL I told Monte that same thing early on. If I bought an Impact machine, I would put it in 14KHz and set it up exactly as I would my Racer 2.......kinda defeats the whole purpose of buying one. Plus I guess ya have to consider the person swinging the machine. Hell, I'm just a dumb hayseed from Idaho, now living in Oregon. Simplicity works for me ( the Racers) Now you, your more of the geeky silicon valley type and the Impact is right up your alley ( i.e. Ya have a few more grey cells than me :) )

Monte told me awhile back, ya need performance and keep it as simple as you can. I 've followed that train of thought ever since. I just like to take my 2 dogs out, let'm run and I detect. If I find some goodies, that's great. If not it still was a fun day for me and the dogs.

Yep Del, I agree. Really curious to give one a try. LOL Sorry Brian for the poor choice of words. What I meant to say geeky= tech savvy

My old grey cells are getting in short supply these days :stars:

I hear you on simplicity, and it's one of the things that I love about the Racers, they employed the KISS mode of operation and due to a lot of behind the scenes work the machine's doing so you didn't have to, they work, and work very well. I'll probably sell off my Red Racer and keep my Racer 2 as a backup in case my Impact dies.

I've said it in the past, if my Racer2 just had selectable frequencies, I likely wouldn't have bought the Impact. It's actually one reason I've been kicking around trying out a Golden Mask 5+, for about $590 you can get the machine, wireless headphones and it's dual frequency (selectable), lightweight, carbon fiber straight shaft with piston grip, and does very well in iron, much lighter then the Impact. I'm very tempted to try one, these Golden Mask machines are quite popular in Europe.

There are sites where just being able to move your frequency from 14Khz to 20Khz is a game changer.

These grey cells are starting to be in short supply :stars:

Simplicity is one of the reasons I love about the Racer series. Makro employed the KISS mode of operation, so it does a lot of behind the scenes work so you didn't have to. The Racers work, and work very well (at least at our type of sites). I'll likely sell my Red Racer, but I'll keep the Racer 2, that machine made a lot of great finds last year, it paid for itself several times over

If the Racer2 just had selectable frequencies, I probably wouldn't have bought the Impact. The Golden Mask machines are popular in Europe, but with no dealer or repair center in the U.S., they've not taken off here.

There are sites where just having the ability to change the frequency from 14Khz to 20Khz is a game changer.

I thought about selling Red at one time. But no more than I would get out of it, it's worth more to me to just keep it. Besides, that lil machine found me some really nice "firsts". So now I put the snake coil on the R2, the sharpshooter on Red and the 5.5 x 10 enclosed on the Fors CoRe. So now I can be more like Monte.........just put a machine on every coil........that's nonsense changing coils......that's down time that I could be putting old coins in my pouch

If you do get the GM5+, I will be curious to see your write ups etc about the machine and how it does compare to a Makro and Nokta. My gut feeling is the folks that make the GM5+ had better get up pretty early in the morning if they wanna get ahead of those Makro/Nokta folks. But then again the last "gut feeling" I had, Monte and I wandered around in Central Idaho till darn near midnight.......................

But all in all, I am really happy with the machines I have. Maybe add the waterproof machine when Makro/Nokta launches one.

A machine for every coil eh? A guy could go broke doing that - lol

Heck I thought I stepped up my game getting a rod for each coil :starwars:

I looked at the GM5+, does come with nice coil options and looks pretty straight forward as far as setting up and using. It does have the 2500 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries. I wonder if it is a removable battery? That is another reason I like machines that use AA batteries. If it goes dead I just plop in some new batteries and I'm up and going again in a few minutes......and everything works. The Deus concept of everything having to be charged up ( Display, Headphones and Coils ) and nonremovable batteries just didn't do it for me. To me it's one of those things, on paper, it looks great, but in the real world maybe not so much. I'm guessing that might be some of the reason for no small coils. Prob couldn't get a battery large enough in a small coil housing to last any decent amount of time.

Maybe next time Monte & I are out detecting, I'll work one of his Impact machines for a bit. In fact, I think he is coming over in the morning. I bought the lot/house next to me and tore it down. The lady that lived there, lived in that house for 65 years and she let the house get in pretty rough shape and I didn't want any new neighbors to deal with. So we have been detecting that and have been getting some Rosie's, mercs and lots of wheat pennies. Would be a good site to give the Impact a try/workout :)

For people like myself, who are not exactly the brightest stars in the sky, can you explain why 20Khz would sometimes have an advantage over 14Khz?

I'm genuinely very interested to find out.

cheers

First, the word is must.

Second, if you were posting on my Forums you would have been zapped. There is absolutely no reason for this kind of behavior by anyone who has a serious interest in this great sport.

1st.. You are a newer poster to the Findmall Forums and you haven't provided any really constructive comments in this Makro thread. If there was something specifically wrong with a Makro product you had, if you had one, then clarify what it was and what you did, if anything, to resolve the issue.

2nd.. I really don't care how long you or anyone claims to have been involved in this great sport because I know quite a few people who got their first detector maybe 20-30 years ago and I have a grandchild who could explain more about the detector operation and field use to many of them. They just are not really into learning about detectors or detecting. I also have several friends who have been at it for 4-6 years and have a very solid knowledge about detector operation and, like the rest of us who are Avid Detectorists, they are always willing to learn more to improve their knowledge and skills.

3rd.. And while on the mention of grandchildren, I know several of mine and I'm sure many other readers have youngsters in their family tree, who can formulate better, more constructive posts than you do, and use proper spelling and punctuation. I had a wife who, while a good gal, was dyslexic and couldn't spell well, and because of that she couldn't read well since many relatively simple words confused her. Maybe you suffer the same problem and you just haven't been able to read or understand the User Manual to learn how to properly set up and operate the Racer series models? It would seem quite possible because they are very well engineered detectors that have proven themselves with superb in-the-field performance in a wide range of hunting environments. In addition, their manuals are well organized and written.

I usually do not respond to posts and address people like you, but this time I just find you quiet annoying to me and many avid users of Makro products and those who have a serious interest in them. Findmall has over 60 different Forums you can go to and bother others. If a Findmall moderator wants to wake up to the happenings here, they ought to ban you for being an annoyance, and I know you won't be missed.

Please, just go away. Spend some time reading and learning about the Makro Racer and other Makro and Nokta products because you will NOT find any other manufacturer who has the same level of presence on any Forum and direct monitoring and commitment by the manufacturer as we have from the Nokta / Makro Team.

Monte

PS: I don't hide my name, either. It only figures that you do.
