DP HHPI New Design 11" Coil
Posted by: Suncoast Kid

I have just saw, on line, the latest new 11 inch searchcoil for the Headhunter pulse. It has the same design, and looks like the 8 inch coil. I was wondering why they changed from the open loop white coil design to this one, and if anyone has had the opportunity to use it, and is there any improvement in performance, or stability, in this new coil compared to the older one? I have included a picture of it. If anyone has had the chance to use it, please let us know. Thanks,

After reading the ad for the new model, still comes with the open white 11" coil. The alternative 8" coil is the black spoked coil.
I imagine it was more cost effective to use the current coil housing used for the Wader and Pirate than retool for a dedicated
coil for the Pulse.

I thought at first that someone just made a mistake and put a picture of the 8" coil under the listing for the 11", but after looking at it carefully and compairing it to the 8" coil, I could see the difference. So I went on line and found it on three different sites, just to make sure my eyes were not going bad. I know the Wader and Pirate have a 10" coil, so I guess it would take a different mold to make the 11".

It's the 8" loop. 11" is still the same as before :)N/T

Someone either made a mistake, or I need a pair of glasses. The 8" is on the left, the 11" on the right? Or maybe it's really a 10" coil from the Wader or Pirate that they are listing as the pulse 11"? It sure has me confused. Thanks Mr. Bill

I've seen pictures of people selling a different looking coil, but have not verified that a new 11" coil exists for the HHPI. I have the white open center 11"coil, and the 8" coil. I prefer the 8" coil due to easier pin pointing and greater sensitivity to smaller targets and can run the unit at the optimal 15uS pulse delay and it is super smooth and very stable. The 11" coil I could not run at the optimal setting and would have to back off the FREQ just a little. There is not much difference in depth between the two on small targets, but I'm sure the 11" coil will hit larger targets deeper, and it covers an area faster. I have hit nickels and similar size targets well over a foot using either coil (using fresh new alk batteries). Pin pointing with the 11" coil is difficult until you get a lot of practice. If they do make a new large coil for the HHPI, I hope it runs as stable as the 8" coil does.

Thank you for clearing it up. I figured Mr. Bill was correct. But that was a big series of mistakes in the advertising. All the big sports shops had the same picture. I was thinking of asking for an 11" coil for Xmas. I just wanted to make sure the wife gets the right one. Or maybe I should say the newest one. I hear the open face 11" doesn't quite run as smooth. I'm just looking for another inch or two in depth. With the HHPI and the two coils along with my Sovereign GT, I might just trade the Excal in on an E-trac or Safari. Winter plans. So I say thank you again.

So was there ever an 8" coil that looked like this?

Yes there was a 8 inch coil that looked like that. I have one.

I also have 2 of the 11inch mono coils.

I also have a custom Eric Foster made 11 inch coil hardwire installed by Mr. Bill on a older black HHPI this is my smoothest running HHPI.

And JADOCS I recognize your handle. I won the Stealth on the other forum.

ROBOCOP Hey thanks buddy! So tell me which one do you prefer? I imagine it would be easier to PP. All the HHPI's I've seen have the white loop.

I prefer the Eric Foster 11 inch coil. My habit is to pinpoint at the 7:30 position on the edge of the coil. I draw one line with the edge of the coil in wet sand than step around and track down that line with the edge of the coil and draw a second line. Where those 2 lines cross seems to be the target.

The edge of the coil seems to be the reference point for me.

In the water you have to keep the coil flat on the ground. If you lift the coil in the water you can get a false target sound, especially when running at a high sensitivity.

I don't use the 8 inch coil because I want max depth.

When the maker of the original coils passed way Detector Pro stopped carrying the HHPI. The Eric Foster coil I got is a real bonus. The coil resistance and inductance requirements were critical specs.

I own 3 units and one extra coil.

I also have a White's TDI. It pinpoints in the center of the coil.
