I like the ultimate depth - it suits my style of detecting really well. A pinponter with 1" reach would be next to useless for me. Also, the pistol shaped handle is comfortable to hold for me. It is not falsing too much on wet salty sand.

What I do not like (minor things) - no vibration, interferes with PI and FBS detectors - this due to nature of operation. The coil of the main detector needs to be placed further away. Battery compartment is not really comfortable to change batteries.

Things to keep in mind - when the batteries are close to empty event without reporting low battery, the probe starts to sound off by itself (due to voltage instability IMHO). I use rechargeables and charge them about monthly. It does not react much to thin aluminium foil - those are a little harder to retrieve, however it is not a dislike for me. After a while, you will know that it is a piece of foil what you are trying to find.

I agree with Pelanj above.
I like its depth capabilities especially when hunting clad. You can get right over a relatively shallow coin and pinpoint on it before digging holding it vertical and slowly waving the tip across the ground.
Makes for very small plugs.

what i dont like is its overall size. I usually just carry it in my hand and ditch the included holster because you have to pull waaaay up on the unit to pull it out of the holster when mounted on your belt.

Its power usage is average. If you hunt a lot, carry a spare pair of nine-volts and dont forget a small phillips screwdriver to undo the battery door.

Overall a decent machine IMHO.

positives: great depth no other pinpointer can match, 2 year warranty if you buy it new

negatives: prone to breaking where barrel meets handle so a good chance you'll need the warranty, bulkiness, looks like a gun

I would agree with marcomo, that a negative is it does look like the stock of a gun. From a distance some people could be fooled. So keep it in the holster until you have to dig.

Agreed

I've been looking to buy used so I don't to pay 200 dollars for a pinpointer

Put the holster on without the probe. If going to walk over pavement make sure to have security strap on.It is a great pointer.I have actually just used it around tree roots and recovered coins without a standard detector.I can hit a quarter over five inches. You will enjoy it.Every one is crazy over the Garret but i like the pistol. The long probe is easy to stick in deeper holes. It has threshold, frequency setting.Basically a hand held headhunter pulse!.

can you "de-tune it" like the GPP ??
and how far away from the coil on a CTX does it have to be to not be a problem?

I REALLY dig this hobby,,,,, Tesoro Silver uMax, Minelab CTx3030, Whites GMT, Garret PP,Liberty Headphones
Oldest 1900 "V" Nickel

Just move the coil to the side (3 ft.) or so. The Pistol Probe has great depth, the downsides are you can hardly hear the probe even at full volume when in a park with traffic, etc. and the pushbutton is VERY HARD to push down.

Also, when using a detector like the CTX or Etrac or TDI SL, the probe does not discriminate. SOOO, you will dig the multiple iron targets that are in the hole along with the coin.
