Ok the Pirate Pro and the wader are basically the same unit. The differences are, wader thas the interchangable coils, pirate pro is hard wired. Wader is made un USA pirate pro is outsourced (I think china). Other than that both units are the same.
As for the technology it's based on the Fisher 1280 but modified to be more stable in salt water and yes both share the 2.4 Khz frequency.
I have the wader and I like it quite a lot. It is very lightweight, the shaft doesn't have any movement or wobbling that the pirate has (aparently the shaft of the pirate is of lower quality than the one of the wader).
The wader can also be super tuned if performance is not optimal by adjusting some trim pots inside. I can air test a quarter at 8-9 in no problem.

My advise, if you can get a wader, sometimes there are on the used market at ridiculus prices, I got mine at a very good price and it was just 3 months old.

Whites V3i & MXT 300

Detector pro wader

I agree with what norbyx says...I also have a Wader & use it for both Salt & Fresh water & mine is older & out of warranty so I

The Pirate Pro has a better battery compartment in the earphones.

The Wader is contrcuted much better and is built here in the USA.

Of the two, I'd get the Wader if the price is in your budget.

wader.. why..

super light weight
headphones/circuitry about the weight of a good pair of headphones
long battery life
quick learning curve
spot on targeting
8-10" depth
ability to located really small tickets is really just amazing.
water proof/ or resistant, although I dropped mine in the water to about 5 five or so and no leaks.
beaches, fresh, or salt dry or in the water. waders work well indeed.

I've read a lot of negatives but most are from hunters that really have never used and heard that other hunters didn't like it or some didn't take the time to understand the unit and some prefer multi frequency units..
and last.. I'm a big excal fan but my wader finds silver and gold and tickets just like the excal but does but not quite as deep. all these detectors are trade off to how you wish to hunt.
I've been using mine for 5 plus years and it's still going strong.

just my opinion

When users are happy with their detector they often make a video and post it on YouTube the better a detector is the more video's is posted.

Well probably detectorpro users don't like to carry a camera... :cam::poke:
I for once don't like to carry anything more than what I need to go MD... I am very sorry if people would like to see me and my finds in youtube, but while I am detecting I wan't to be free...

yes, I buried a 5 gram gold rings , at 12" 10" a quarter 9" and a pulltab at 8 " just to see how the wader stacked up in my test area. the excal hit's strong on all of them, the wader hits faint to weak on 10", but it is repeatable!, on the gold and strong on quarter and pull tab,( pulltabs sound like gold) . now the conditions are diff at the beach but i was satisfied. the excal also hits well on the deeper 12" ring. Not scientific and i had gary tune my wader to run pretty hot so I'm very staisfied. I'm an old guy of 67 an my joints hurt sometimes so weight is an issue with me so I use the wader a lot because I can hunt longer and cover more ground. I still like to hunt with my excal also and use it about once a week. Of course neither the wader or excal can beat the HHPI , you want deep then thats the ticket. targets are so deep sometimes i cant dig down to them in the water.

Thanks robert great info you posted. I still can't understand why some detectorists dislike the wader, I assume that they haven't tried one so they go for the numbers.
I know the wader is no excal. but it's not ment to be, it's cost is half of that of the excal. Now on the confort line... there is not one detector that can beat the wader. well probably the deus if you water proof the head, and find some waterproof bluetooth headphones, but the wader is just amazing.

I like to watch them but would'nt know how to make one. Most are for the excal and other high end detectors. also, the DP's owners are a smaller group of people. If theres some where that has an easy to understand way to do a video and post it i'd like to have the link. Would my under water olympus work as a video camera it has a video function?

Yes it would. If it's waterproof and has video function than you can use it. As for how to post a video it is very easy, what you need is a youtube account. You log in and upload the video on youtube. Once you have done that you copy the address of the video in the post using the video icon on the side of the smiley icon on this forum. The video gets posted. Otherwise you just copy the link of the address of the video on youtube to your post on this forum, and we all can see the video.

I know that there aren't many Headhunter users in the MD world and that is a shame. Unfortunately most of the time I try to advise someone to buy a Detectorpro even on other forums I am considered like a crazy guy that doens't know what he is talking about.
Anyhow let them think what they want I know what I like and what I have. that is the important part for me. If others want to listen fine, if they don't well good luck in spending a lot of money for a water detector that will work just a bit better. Also I am able to detect on land with the DP and it also does a decent job... an excal or CZ can detect on land as well but it's heavy and unconfortable.

I cant figure that one out either. It has near excal depth, its light and easy to use and your right half the cost of the excal. battery life is terrific and super low cost. use a wader and the excal feels like an anchor (but a really good anchor). I dont hunt much past 1-2.5 feet of water so the wader is perfect for me.

thanks Norbyx, I'll give it a go! I use to try the same thing an was considered unknowledgable. even when i wrote about the DP strengths in comparison to minelabs. I dont even try any more.

I forgot to add that my Wader has the 8in fixed coil.....with a 10in coil you could prpbably get 10/11 inches on a quarter......PS...I once sold this wader & missed it so bad that when it went up for sale...I jumped on it & Gave $25 dollars more than what I had originally sold it for...now that's how good I think they are for me & my style of detecting.....HH...Tab.
