Confirmation on a Decision

I am looking at purchasing a wader. At this point I cannot afford the $1,000 dollar plus surf & beach detectors. The wader is right in my price range. I have read the reviews and it appears that you may not get the depth, but other than that it appears to be a good salt/fresh water detector for the price. The question is should I wait until I have the resources to purchase the more expensive detector, or will the wader meet my needs as a casual user?

I've used the Wader for a number of years and have found
lots of coins and rings with it.
After I've cleaned the site with the wasder I go back
with the DP PI and start going after the deeper targets,
I hunt fresh water and don't mine the iron targets that show up.
Considering the coins are going to more steel in there makeup.

Thank you for your comments, that is good advice to follow-up on the deeper targets.

If you mean a fresh water beach, the Wader will do just fine. I would not hesitate to get one.

If by beach you mean salt water, and you intend to go into the wet stuff, I will have to vote that you save your money and get a detector specifically designed for salt water beaches.

While the Wader will function in wet salt sand with a certain degree fo stability, depth tends to be rather poor and the sensitivity uneven.

But that would be true of an single frequency VLF detector, no matter what make or model you are talking about.

Thank you, that is the type of information that I am looking for. I vacation at a KOA in Myrtle Beach so I will be using it on the beach at least 12 days in the salt environment.[

I use the Wader all the time on sand beaches and have had no trouble, with lots of finds including two small gold ladies rings which were detected easily.
A lot of beaches in this area have rocky areas which produce the best results.
The best thing I find about the Wader is that you can drop it on the rocks without worrying about where it will land and that it is going to damage anything.
It must be the most dinged Wader in the world.
I have just bought a spare Wader for a good price as it would cost a fortune if I had to send the old one back to the US for repair.

I use mine all the time in salt water to about knee deep. no problem. lots of finds. in fact one of my my best gold find ever was a ornate 100+ year gold cross at about 6-7" in hard compact mineralized sand. I found it right behind a guy using an sov. go slow and crank the disc down or dont use it at all.

Interesting, but tell me, if you run with no discrimination at all, why not just use a PI detector?

Simple, variety, target id i.e using disc after finding nice sounding target is a nice option to have avail should you want it. I also like the dead on pinpoint of the wader and small coil. I dig a lot of targets with the wader. however for crazy depth nothing beats the PI. I used my wader in salt and fresh water for years before i got my PI .
