Pistol Probe pi for Beach hunting,
Posted by: Old California
Date: March 18, 2016 10:43AM
Always wanted to connect a coil to the Pistol Probe, last night temporarily mounted a 10" center mount 15us coil and a cheap pair of phones.

Dang, Pistol Probe operates just like the HH Pi same depth too.

Now, Knowing this will mount a connector onto the Pistol Probe and a headphone jack so the Probe can be used for Probe use or a pocket pi with coil mounted on shaft when coil connected to probe connector. The phone connector will allow my favorite headset, this is great!

Amazing, the Pistol Probe is a snappy pi just like the HH Pi.

Will post final project when completed, Thanks for looking.

Keep me in the loop. That sounds very interesting.

Update, different Probe same as Uniprobe

You bet docaudio and Ozleif,

I'll share pics step by step when it's completed.

Here's a general setup, will remove the basic Probe and replace with same type as Uniprobe Probe. What this does is allows a connector to mount either the Probe or coil cable with connector, the circuit board portion will slide into a pouch and still have access to the Probe for inland hunting.

When using the coil for dry or wet sand, the circuit board portion again can mount in a pouch and use a headset for audio attaching to an added phone plug. Or, mount the circuit board portion directly to the S-handle below the arm rest and continue using the the headset for audio.

I'll try and complete this next weekend, very simple project. The Pistol Probe is really a HH Pi, only packaged different.

Can't wait to hit the sand with this :)

Thanks for your interest

Any chance you have enough room with the circuit board to tuck it inside a set of grey ghost headphones ?

I think so, I'll have to measure the board and cup.

The 10" 15us center mount coil is an Eric Foster made coil for the CS-7, a good friend passed this coil to me. Both CS-7 and HH Pi can operate off same coils.

Great idea!

Do you have any idea if TDI coils can be adapted to this detector?

Alternativly, do you know if Detectpr Pro still has coils available for their PI?

I'm thinking either doing a hand wound coil or if the seahunter coil in 8inch would fit up. Worked like a champ for me on my surfmaster pi.pro build .

Hello John,

The 10" center mount coil is great, have another one for my 10us GoldQuest SS that I made waterproof and with inline Probe.

Was out the other day with the GoldQuest, scored a 14k ladies ring at a local dry river bed. Was down about 8"-10" inches, our fresh water sand is extreamly mineralized VLF struggle here.

Agree, The Gold Quest with 10" center mount coil is hot on small gold, perfect detector for ocean surf or mineralized fresh water sand.

Good to hear from you ;)

Hello Rick,

TDI coils will not work with the 15us HH Pi, not sure if detector Pro still has coils?

These are hot Pi's, HH Pi and Pistol Probe share the same circuitry just a different size board.

Truly amazing, the Pistol Probe is a steal by itself. Add a 15us coil you've got a hot pi for wet sand or fresh water hunting.

Take care Rick!

The HH Pi and Pistol Probe need a 15us coil, otherwise even if you can make the Garrett seahunter coil to work it'll lack sensitivity and depth, it needs a 15us coil.

Trust me, find a 15us coil otherwise you'll never get the Pi's full performance.

Good luck!

Thanks John,

Hopefully have the pi project completed this weekend.

Will post final setup and after detecting the river, can't wait!

Thanks again,
Paul
