I've read several stories about the company and their Christian beliefs. They're doing everything humanly possible to stay open but they will not stay open if they have to accept Obama'a health plan. It's really sad and unfortunately it's only going to get worse from here on in. Obama is out to destroy this nation and he's well on his way to doing just that. Every one of my doctors - both specialist and the regular doctors as well - have told me they won't be taking in any new medicare patients because of Obamacare.

A Letter from Hobby Lobby Stores CEO
By David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we
were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn't much bigger than most people's living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God's word. From there,Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation's largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I've always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God's laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that's what we've tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week's biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest. We believe that it is by God's grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We've not only added jobs in a weak economy, we've raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage.

But now, our government threatens to change all of that. A new government health care mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don't pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don't cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs. It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in government fines.

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy. Our government threatens to fine a company that's raised wages four years running. Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It's not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it's the same for everybody. But that's not true. The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won't exempt them for reasons of religious belief.

So, Hobby Lobby and my family are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don't like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.

My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult. The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that's a choice no American and no American business should have to make.

Sincerely,
David Green, CEO and Founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

I'm actually interested to see how "Sweet Frog" will be affected by this too.... http://sweetfrogyogurt.com/about/whats-a-sweet-frog] If you are not aware of what Sweet Frog is, they are a Christian based make it yourself Yogurt company based out of VA. We have one here in Statesville and we love bringing the kids. It's a great time and we appreciate the fact that they play nothing but Christian music in the dine-in restaurant. The "frog" stands for "FULLY-RELY-ON-GOD". God Bless them and all Christian based companies during this difficult time.

High,
So WHAT!!!! - Nobody is forcing anybody to swallow these abortion pills.
So quit crying and sniveling about it then.
And sure as heck no jobs will be lost because a few abortion pills are being handed out - that is just plain nonsense.
Just look at the other side of the coin - a lot of hard working Americans can NOT even afford health care/medication - even when they so desperately are in need of it.
And that is definitely realy sad.
In Canada EVERBODY has medical insurance and pays peanuts for it compared to the US.
This is the way it should be. Period.

High CEO,
The government is not forcing you to follow your faith or the law.
What the government is in fact saying is: If one of your workers wants to use contraceptives or as you call "abortion pills" - so be it. These will be paid for under health care.
Now you have to ask yourself : DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DICTATE THE PERSONAL DECISIONS OF YOUR EMPLOYEES ??
SHOULD YOU BE ALLOWED TO DOCTRINE YOUR OWN PERSONAL BELIEFS UPON THEM ??
Or is the issue really something way different ?
Maybe many of your employees don`t receive any health care benefits at all and now you are being "forced" to do the Christian chore to provide such for them.
This will definitely cut into your profit margin and this is what the whole issue is all about.
I can not say this for sure - but your workers will surely know what is fact or fiction.
You just think about it.

Shookom,

You're missing the point entirely! It's the government (Obama-care) that's forcing this on employers. If it's against our faith, why should we be a part of it??? Obviously we shouldn't. So it's Obama and his lost sheep that's doing this to the American people.

Skookum,

First I'd like to say thank you for coming to the Forum. Secondly, thank you so much for your opinion. Although my opinions differ greatly from yours, it's encouraging to see individuals express their views, regardless of political and / or religious affiliation. It's shows me that all of us here in America are being protected day and night from all enemies foreign and domestic so that we may have the freedom to express these views.
Please feel free to visit url=http://http://icasualties.org/oef/ on this years military casualties, for these are the people that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Having said this, soldiers protect our flesh and our way of life. Jesus on the other hand is the true protection. He is the protector of our souls. He is our savior and once we accept him, we are promised the kingdom of heaven. I'm not saying I'm the best Christian on the planet Skookum, no one is. We all make mistakes, we all sin, we all struggle through life, but it's Jesus Christ alone who can set us free. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

If you would like to communicate off line I extend my hand out to you my friend. Please feel free to PM me any time and may the peace of Jesus Christ be with you and your family.

Greg

Having lived on both sides of the border. Yes Canada has free medical at a price. You need a doctor's referral to get tests, if you can find a doctor that need more patients otherwise happy hunting for one. Once you get a referral, your tests probably will be booked within the next 6-8 months. Then it may take another 6 months to a year to be booked for surgery if needed. Heaven forbid if you have cancer, lung problems, diabetes etc. By the time your seen, diagnosed or get treatment you might as well be dead. That's what the Ca medical system hopes for. Now if your injured, dis-membered in an auto accident, dying etc. you'll go right into surgery. Common flues, cold, cuts, etc. can be treated in the emergency centers of hospitals free but you may have to endure 4-12 hour waits in the waiting room. Don't expect sympathy from any of the hospital staff while you wait. It's free to be treated at the hospital emerg. By the way, many hospitals are understaffed when it comes to doctors working in Emerg.

Not all treatments, surgery, drugs are covered by the Gov't anymore. They are taking more off the free list every year. Many drugs that are free in the US are not here. You still need a health plan and prescription plan here in Canada and not many employers here will offer them. If they do they are pretty bad for what you pay, unless you belong to a Union. As it looks my wife is going to need some drug not covered by Canada's medical system, only drug that will work, it's going to cost us over $500 a month for it. I no longer work at a Unionized company that with a medical plan that would cover it. How's this for cheap union health care coverage cost $10 a week. Best part covered prescriptions.

My wifes needs continuing medical problems, been there done that. Will say if you need medical tests, surgery etc. in the US you can get it within a week in many cases before the problem goes from bad to deathbed, you can live to see tomorrow.

And you want to talk about dental plans insurance coverage, be lucky if you have some here or have enough money saved up. If not dentists will do a quick extraction for several hundred dollars.
Yank is quicker and cheaper than fixing. I lived in a small city and took 7 months to get an appointment at a dentist that would even look at you without first handing over average of $250 just to get a privilege to see the dentist. Then talk about the cost of dental work............be lucky you live in the US. By the way realized how much dental cost after noticing the city I lived in, most folks teeth were crooked, missing, decaying etc. Seldom saw nice teeth when someone smiled. I payed the price this year $4000 in new crowns etc. Lucky I found the best dentists I have ever went to, superb dentistry, knew what he was doing and how to use his tools. Who tried to save you money and had a payment plan you can afford. So I had the work done, that I had put off for several years. Choice of between taking the bus, new used car or dental work had to be made. Dental won out.

So it's not all rosey up here when it comes to medical and dental treatment. You have a better chance of getting fast medical treatment without complications in the US than Canada but it still may cost you. At least you won't be walking with a limp, needing a cane, walker etc. as you would be here after Canadian surgery because by the time you had to wait until you were treated, your aliment progressed from mild to wild......But, financially the Canadian health care system doesn't send you into the poor house, you don't have copays, medical bills that pile up month after month that you can't even begin to pay, drugs you can't afford. You can still enjoy life with out worrying about owing your life's savings to the US healthcare industry or the US goverment.

Overall, if in good health and if in need of an occasional in/out hospital visit with a non threating life aliment(s) in need of treatment. No worries, Canadian hospital visit(s) treatment is free.
Just go to emerg and endure the wait. Both US and Canadian Health Care have their plus and minus. We moved back to my wife's home country Canada because we just couldn't afford the
US medical treatments, surgeries, it was financially sending us spiraling down into the poorhouse. Our nest egg went to support doctors and surgeons yachts, big houses, multiple expensive SUV's etc. By the way we did have a very good health care plan coverage by my wife's employer while in the US which cost us about $$$ month, wasn't cheap.

By the way, many more wealthy Canadians will travel to the US, Mexico or Europe to get on the spot medical treatment and surgeries.................that will let them live a much more normal life afterwards.

Thank goodness, for my age, I'm in excellent shape and in no need of medical treatment, besides the occasional visit to the dentist. At this time for me personally, Canadian health care is all I need.
