I've been told by a Hunting Friend that the date on the medal has religious significance and is not the age of the piece.

I thought it was in too good a condition to be that old!

Usually the silver plating is etched away first and the chain loop shortly after that.

Regards to you all,

he had never found a gold ring or any gold jewelery. I said, you don't dig many pulltabs or bottle caps etc do you? No, he said, do you? I said, yes, tons of them along with some gold. He still didn't get it:rolleyes:
Not everyone (like me) has an expensive or specific detector, they are sure nice and do a great job but it seems that one still needs to dig some junk:biggrin:

That is the front of a very popular catholic medal, called the miraculous medal, what 1830 represents is the date of the vision that inspired the medal, an apparition of the virgin Mary to sister ( now saint ) Catherine Laboure, in the convent at Rue DE Bac, Paris. I have a few of these of different size's I have found of various metal's I have a very small one posted now on the minelab explorer forum under the title ( key date indian and small silver pendant ).

-A 6 years ago I was hunting a school yard and run into 2 older man. As w talked one asked what had found. I showed them a hand full of clad an few pull tabs. They both smiled an asked me why I had a XLT and still dug zinks and pull rings. Then we talked about how we didn't find as much gold as we once did. They told me that they had been hunting for years and all the gold was found years before. I asked them what they looked for. They told me all they dug was 82 and higher on their XLTs.
