BURIED SILVER COINS

My coinhunting buddy just called me about looking for a cache of silver coins a guy buried almost 50 years ago. Supposedly the guy had stolen the coins from an old lady when he was a young kid and buried them all over the yard in glass jars. My buddy said there was supposed to be silver dimes, quarters, halves, and silver dollars buried all over the yard. I know it sounds far fetched, but you can bet i'm going to go to the site tomorrow to investigate. The guy that buried the coins supposedly couldn't find them after he buried them and they have never been found. I will try the Silver Umax first and then use my CZ70 with the 10 1/2" coil in case they are deeper than the Umax can reach. From what my buddy told me there is a large amount of coins buried there.....almost a 5 gallon bucket full of silver coins! So if there is that many coins buried there in jars more than likely a young kid wouldn't bury them very deep and they should be able to be found if they are there. I even thought maybe probing might be a good idea also, but i'll try the detectors first. I'll let you know tomorrow evening if anything was found. It sure is gonna be hard to sleep tonight thinking about finding jars of old silver coins.....lol..............roger

Sometimes a treasure search just sounds like bad business...

well, i went to the site of the supposedly buried jars of silver coins and there is a new house and garage on the property now. the owner said there was fill dirt brought in to level the lot before the house was built, but we could give it a try if we wanted to. nothing showed up where the coins were supposed to be buried but it was fun searching. maybe next time............roger

Well joe don't give up i'm sort of chasing, the same thing is going on except i'm chasing gold double eagles in mason jars that were burried by a retired civil war colonel that was part of his pension money after his service and from what i was told he did this with many jars, all i ask is just for one jar, well good luck in all your hunts!

on monday my coinhunting buddy called me and said the guy who buried the silver coins years ago came by his house with 3 silver dollars he wanted to sell. two were 1922 peace dollars and the 3rd was a very pretty 1897 0 morgan dollar. the odd thing was all 3 coins had dried dirt in the details of the coins and had obviously been in the ground. my buddy bought all 3 coins for 20.00 and i ended up with the 2 peace dollars. i'm thinking he has the coins stashed somewhere besides the spot he said they were buried at and will start selling a few at a time for beer and cigarette money. the guy told my friend there was also 1,5,10,20,and 50 dollar bills in some of the jars he buried. i haven't personally got to talk to this guy but sure want to ask him some questions. some of the details he has gave about the coins like some were buried in alka seltzer bottles makes me believe he really did bury these coins and possibly went back and moved most or all to a different location. curious to see what he brings for sale next time also..........roger
