I sent the seller a question last night about the history of this detector and that to my knowledge, Tesoro never produced a blue unit. He responded by adding pics of the control box that has the logo. This one's shaped differently than any of the silver sabers made......link below

Blue Saber?

That was purchased from an estate sale in MO.

I also made a post at the Tesoro company forum.

Here's the box close up pictures from that Fleabay listing.

Similar to the Pillow metal detector?

That seems to be made like the Pillow metal detectors which were manufactured by Tesoro and were maroon in color.

Wonder how many Tesoro made in Blue with the Tesoro decals? Before making them for Pillar.

Sven, good find. It's fun finding out 'bout all of the private label detectors that Tesoro has made since they have been around. I've had the itch to try and start a collection like this blue one but just like everything else funds are just not there......:rage:

I did find this:

In 1984 Tesoro diversified and increased its market share by making two different private label agreements. The first was with Montgomery Wards catalog sales department. Wards wanted a detector line that was both well known and distinctive to their store. After some negotiation, Tesoro agreed to produce the Sabre II and the Sabre Supreme. These detectors had Tesoro Technology in a different shape and color of the control housing. After the deal was set and the catalogs produced, Wards decided to get out of catalog sales. So Tesoro was featured in the very last Montgomery Wards catalog that was ever produced.

Which makes me think that this blue one is a Montgomery Wards unit.
