I went back today with a rake and a saw. Cleared a lot of debris out of the way. Spent more time cleaning than hunting. Found a 1905 indian head cent and a junk ring. Its time to try and find another spot.

I dont use them. The old set I have dont work on the Vaq. They work on my White but I didnt like wearing them.

Im in the same area but spreading out. Trying to locate another hot spot. No luck but getting an occasional keeper. Heres an IH , my 1st merc a 1940, with the vaq a couple of wheaties and a memorial.

Spent another hour in the woods there today. Found my 1st ever V nickle. Its in horrible shape. i think the date is 1885. A 1942S war nickle and a 1913 D Lincoln.

I just noticed that a 1885 V is rare. I wish I hadnt cleaned it but then how would I know the date?

Its impossible to read the date. I scanned it and still cant make it out. It may be an 1895 , 1896, 1885, or 1886.

This spot Ive been hunting has really been a great spot to learn the vaquero. I have ran it supertuned to the max, found the gold that way , run it straight up, even turned the threshold to quiet , trying to separate sounds in all metal. This machine is easy to experiment with unlike my last unit that had so many features I was overwhelmed by it. My finds are way up. I find myself setting the threshold at about 2:oclock a lot now and the machine at min. discriminate. Im getting a lot more old nickles now , dimes and wheaties are exciting to hear, Indian heads have sounded more like zinc's for some reason.Cant wait to hit that silver quarter. I have dug up lots of bullets masquerading as nickles. They dont bother me to much. The aluminum foil on the other hand, I hate that stuff.

The v-nickle that I found was under several inches of leaves and a fallen limb. I heard a slight tone , kicked the debris out of the way swept the coil and their was that beautiful tone that I have come to love. The last war nickle completely fooled me. I was beside the creek that runs through there and thought for sure I had a surface pulltab . I bent over and hastily swept the top layer of soil away and out flew the 5 center.

Anyway, any finds I get in that area Im gonna post here instead of starting a new thread.

Spent two hours in the woods and stumbled on an old camping spot, I think. I covered it pretty good but there is still some more to be hunted. Theres a couple of dead trees in the way and Im gonna attempt to move them. It had a lot of good stuff in it. Pennies were1914 , 1917 , 1920 , 1934 , 1935s , 1939, and 1941. Have a buffalo nickle and my second Shield nickle in 2 days and 2nd ever, it dated 1901. A 1905 Barber dime. Theres a 1909 token. It reads INGLE INTRADE SYSTEM JUN. 1909. The reverse readsT.J.HAWKINS with a large 1 and four stars. I have no idea what it is. Theres also a little decorative copper piece that I have no clue what it is and what appears to be a fancy roach clip . I cant wait to get back out there.

Man that is excellent! My advise, don't quit on that spot. I'd go back and work a grid, if you already haven't, with tight overlaps. I'm sure you've heard it said a place was worked to death and there's nothing left, only to find you go to give a quick look and BAM! Awesome job, thanks for posting!

Thanks and good hunting,

Went back this morning . This Vaquero is lucky on nickles. I found 3 V's today. That makes five in three days.Three days ago I had never found one. Got a Shield also, my first ever and my oldest coin to date. Plus three newer Jeffersons just made me a Buffalo shy of a nickle grand slam. The Shield is an 186? the V's are 1883, 1912 and ? Three wheat cents 1914D, 1915, 1918. Got a small sterling something, some sort of whistle and what looks like a toy cannon. I wish these nickles were not so corroded. So far all the finds in this thread were found within 100 yards of each other. Theres a lot more area to hunt.

WOOHOOO 1914 D is a rare one.Its not in bad condition. Its the green one in the pic.
