I can see the advantage of selective multi-tone hunting at a beach or popular sports areas like volley ball courts, around swimming pool grassy areas that has an abundance of those pesky zinc pennies.
...After I have dug up more than a dozen of those pesky zincs, I would rather dig up pulltabs and nickel range targets, greater chances of finding goldin that conductivity range . But then again Location is a big factor here, if zinc pennies are thick as fleas on a dog's back...I'll take low tones for low conductors in the gold range, or high tones for targets with higher conductivity like clad dimes, silver dimes and silver jewelery. The old outdated Pantera that I have is a perfect detector for ID'ing zinc pennies that are'nt too deep, I just set the 'notch control at around 6 on the dial and it tone breaks or split tones on a zinc penny.
.....Don't get me wrong on zinc penny signals, I'll dig them allways in some locations, but when every other target is a zincoln, I'll pass on them if they are the predominant trash item there, I don't want to wear myself out for two or three dozen dirty rotten pennies. Some of my best finds have been in the zinc penny range, like old saloon tokens, deep barber dimes, indian head pennies, watch fobs and all kind of neat small items.But for me, if the zinc pennies are thick, I like to avoid them for now, maybe if I go back to the same place again, I can do some zinc penny mining.
