NIce Little Hunt with the Compadre

I was able to get out and spend some time detecting this morning. With work and family I have been really busy, but I would not trade time with my family for nothing and right now I am just grateful to have the job I do. I did have quite a fun time detecting. I have gone over the area I chose to hunt quite a few times, but was still looking for that one of a kind find. This area was where I found my 1945 S war nickel, and a barrel key along with a silver ring and a wheatie. I had hunted for a while finding the usual clad when I got a really good signal behind a baseball back stop. I have found some good things behind these back stops and my Compadre seems to get the job done everytime. I can get in close and if I get a good signal I dig. I am glad I dug this one. I found something I will probably only find once in a lifetime. I dug down and could feel that my target was coin shaped. It felt large enough to be a quarter (this is exciting enough in an area that you have pounded pretty hard), then when I got two fingers around it I realized it must be larger than a quarter possibly a dollar coin or a 50 cent piece. When I finally got it to the surface I realized it was more unique than that. I have been trying to find more information out about it by doing a google search. It appears to be a souvenier coin from a Muesuem in France and says Chateau de Versailles on the front. 2004 and limited edition on the back. It is larger than a 50 cent piece, but a little smaller than a morgan dollar. I saw on one site someone selling the exact coin in 2010 or such for 5 pounds I believe. Regardless of value, it is an amazing find that I will probably only find once. I have never been to Paris or France, but it felt a little like I visited it today. I hope you enjoy the pics and any information any one might have on this coin would be appreciated. My clad count for a 4 hour hunt totaled in at $2.39 cents. But the time to be able to detect today was priceless. HH and Good Luck to all.]

Nice hunt, great finds! I took my Compadre out the other day to a small area, 30 x 30 ft, I recently hunted with another detector and hit more then 15 additional targets. Blew me away! Keep in mind the other detector had a 9" coil to the Compadres 5 3/4 inch. What a great little detector.

Thanks and good hunting,
Mike / '53Silver

Nice to see you back Tabman. I enjoy reading your posts and was happy you found some gold and silver the other day. That silver umax sounds like a sweet machine as well. Just wondering about your soil out in Tennessee. I have mineralized soil out where I live and was trying to figure out how the silver umax would perform in my area. It seems like an amazing detector for the money and with interchangeable coils the possibilities are endless, the only thing I am concerned about is the lack of manual ground balance. I have seen your finds with it that you have posted and I am impressed. I have a Bandido II umax I recently purchased and I am waiting for it to arrive. I hope it takes care of the bad soil with ground balance. I used your setting from the silver umax with the Compadre today on setting it at mid pull tab area and it worked great. Thanks for the heads up. Crimson1 you are going to love your Compadre. It pinpoints easily and finds the good stuff. Watch out you will get addicted to using it quickly. It is simple but powerful. HH
