12 x 10 coil question?

I would like to know if the 12 x10 concentric coil is a little deeper than the 12 x 10 widescan coil? I am not in mineralized soil, like in the gold fields. Just mild Oklahoma dirt.
I am thinking the concentric coil, but want to ask the people that already knows, thanks.

In good soil concentrics might get you slightly deeper but down deep that scanning field is pretty small so you have to really overlap...even then you could miss something.
The DD has a much wider scanning field down deep...a little less overlapping and you don't mis much, and the depth isn't that much less than a concentric, not enough for me to worry about, anyway.

In pop top infested parks I hate using DD's.
In wide open areas without a ton of them I use my 10X12 DD...otherwise I usually have my 5.75 concentric coil mounted because most if my sites are really loaded with trash and iron.

I will say that big DD got me a gold ring one time when I was at the end of my hunt and I was literally running around swinging that coil way too fast looking for one last Hail Mary good target before I quit.
To this day I still believe it was the speed of my Vaq and that long scanning field that enabled me to hear that short quick tone that I went back to examine further.
Using a concentric I think I might have missed it but I will never know for sure.

If i put the 12 x 10 dd coil on a Siver Umax, will it throw the preset ground balance off? Will it have no affect on it? Thanks.

For ultimate optimum hunting if you are using a unit without adjustable GB some do send the unit and coil to Tesoro to tune and balance everything correctly.
If you plan on using that coil all the time and want to go through the hassle fine, but many don't.
They switch coils all the time on fixed GB units and even though probably not perfect most seem to work just fine without any major issues.
If it changes anything, like slightly adjusting the disc range, I assume it wouldn't be a huge difference that would matter to most of us...it wouldn't to me, anyway, I would just adapt.

You may find that putting the 10X12 on the Silver or any other preset for that matter, may cause chatter and falsing. However, I'd try it before sending it in to Tesoro for tuning. In my own limited experience, larger coils than standard seem to be a bit more "iffy" than smaller ones. Probably due to the fact that they are reading more ground and therefore more mineralization than the smaller ones.

I have never heard of a 12 x 10 concentric coil for a Tesoro. I have the 12 x 10 widescan coil which is my most used coil on my Tejon. I don't know about increasing depth, but I will say that a concentric coil will help you filter out steel bottle caps better than a widescan or DD coil though.

There's a "12x10" in a Widescan (DD) version for both 4 and 5 pin Tesoros, and a different "12x10" that's also available in a concentric, but for the 5 pin machines only. The concentric 12x10 looks similar to the 9x8 concentric, but has an extra spoke.

one more wheatie..

I have heard that the depth isn't all that different on the 12x10 concentric vs. the 9x8 from other reviews.
