Called the big cheese @ Tesoro was concerned about the Tesoro Deleon & former coil that was on it and was told" believe or not" that the very best coil for this detector would be a concentric coil and to go with a 8" coil and have the detector calibrated .I had him put on a 8" coil and when I got it , it blew my socks off---WOW-----120% better and deep(10 kHz)cjm

yeah, baby!

The 8" has been around for a long time, but it's a great coil, as are the 5.75 and new 7".
Only time I use a Widescan on 'em is when I want greater coverage (and then I expect the Widescan not to disc out small iron where it should).

one more wheatie..

I've found the 8" coil to be one of my favorites. It gets a tad more depth on my D even though that coil and the D have never been tuned for the best response.

Yep, the 8" Brown donut stays on My Golden.
My other two Detectors I use 8" Coils mostly also.
Perfect size as good depth and coverage and still decent in semi trash.

I use 8" on most my detectors most of the time but my Troy stays on my Deleon. Had my machine tuned to it.

My favorite is the 5.75. Yes, I do lose coverage, but not convinced I lose depth. I like it because it's lighter to swing, pin point, and just feels right.
My next favorite is the stock 9" coil. Great for open, less trashy ground. I put the on 7" wide screen on when I just want a change, just for gp's. It works every time.

Shoot, now I gotta order an 8" concentric. It's very pretty, too.

Did you have to send the D to Tesoro to have it calibrated?
I've ordered two extra coils from Tesoro, and both work fine. At least from what I can tell. A former Tesoro tep, Allan, stated to me that it would be highly unusual for the recommended coils to need be tuned to my Deleon. I

Some years ago, when I first heard of having the detector/coil tuned, I called Tesoro. I had been, and still do, change coils as desired with good performance. What I was told on the phone call was for OPTIMUM performance whatever coil you use most MIGHT be improved with the tuning. So far my experience has been good without sending any thing in so I'd recommend trying what you have to see how it performs before sending it in.

My thinking is this cortes, deleon are pre set for ground balance at the factory.so I would think calibrating any of this detectors to a certain coil is the way to go for TOP performance. That was what I did to my de leon with a conc. 8" coil:thumbup:

I wonder how one would know if you're not getting top performance. I mean, if the machine is quiet, and the targets are being hit hard, and depth is what you expect....then there you go.

So far, I've only experienced problems with one coil. It had a small cut near the lower connector with exposed wire. Sent it to Tesoro and they returned a new one. Gotta love um.

I would imagine that any Tesoro machine that does NOT have the ground balance feature , would have a setting considered to be optimum for each coil used on it ..... There are so many variable's to consider also ....soil type , hard or soft soil , iron or no iron soil , etc ...... You might get lucky with all your ducks in a row and have a great running machine right out of the gate when putting on a new coil .... or you might not .....Try it and see ..... I'm sure that every detector is slightly different from one to the other even if it's the same model ....My brothers Silver uMax is a MONSTER !!.....It hit's coins unbelievably deep !!...and it runs quiet as a mouse !!..... not to mention the discrimination is great !!...... After all, we're not buying hand tuned machines here ...There are Tuesday machines , and Friday machines .....Which one do you have ? .....
