The Troy X5. Truth or Fiction, it has a almost Cult following

Just asking you long-time Beepers about the Troys. They were still being made, but I couldn't come up with the $$. But anyway in your options what machine in production now comes close to or exceeds the Troys? This thread popped up recently over on the Metal Tecting Forum. Who better to ask than you guys? I understand they were (rain proof) and way ahead of their time.

Without doubt the worst detector that i have ever owned, bought it brand new 10 ago and because of shipping etc from the US to the UK it was not cheap,i had the stock coil,10x6 and the 7'' coil, used it for 14 months and used it for 100s of hours but it was not for me,only machine that i have ever bought and sold, but as luck would have it because it was in mint condition and the rarity aspect of them in the UK i was able too get almost what i paid for it,which i must admit i was totally shocked at.

Most detectors loose alot of value when you come to sell them but the Troy X5 bucked that trend, could not get rid of it quickly enough,it just loved iron and on most of our older sites we can have plenty of iron,so it had too go.

So from my perspective and using one for 14 months my vote would go for 'fiction'

Deus and Nexus MP main everyday detectors

Displays on a Detector are really the equivalent of relying on sub-titles,give me a Analogue machine anyday.

Site specific use machines.
TDI Pro 20'' Mono
Nexus SE dual 9'' coil
Fisher TW-5 twin box
Crossbow PI Coiltek 14x9 Mono
Mirage PI 5'' Mono
DFX 18'' Detech
T2 SEF15x12
IDX Pro 15'' Concentric
Arado120b
B1 and B3
Trident11 Extreme NEL Snake

Mainly hunt deep ploughed and pasture sites, trashy roman/saxon and celtic permissions.

I think I woulda been a Tejon "cultist" if I'd started out with one. Oh well. Publisher's Clearing House is about to make their rounds- and then there's Powerball.....:yo:

I had the Troy X2 and it was a great machine. I think a lot of folks bought the X5 thinking that, if the X2 was great, the X5 would be even better. Apparently, that turned out not to be the case.

Hmmmm, that's a horse of a different color. Wonder how many X2's are still out there? Berry what did you hunt the X2 mostly for?

I used the X2 almost exclusively on dry sand beaches.

The X-5 is the best all around beep & Dig detector I ever used. Really good depth great for parks and playgrounds and before the recent PI would equal or surpass any VLF for relic hunting.

I've had mine 3 or 4 years. I like it fine. Its discrimination system was the start of my 3D triple discrimination mod on my Tesoros.
