Concentric versus wide scan coils

Let me start by saying I'm using a Vaquero detector.....I started using the 5.75 wides an coil which worked very well for me..... I was amazed at how deep it was in my mineralized soil...I continued hearing how much deeper the concentric coils went....... I bought an 8 inch concentric coil for the Vaquero thinking that it would go so much deeper than the wide scan coil.... I checked both coils out in my test Garden ..... I really thought I was going to get a lot more depth with the 8 inch doughnut but it wasn't much more at all .....
Not to mention I was getting much better separation with the small wide scan coil...... this test pretty much convinces me that in highly mineralized soil I'm better off with the double D coil .... i'll save the concentric coil for soil that is not quite so mineralized ..... my next coil will be the 11 x 8 double D coil..... that coil will be by beach coil........Jim

That is very interesting Jim. I live in mineralized ground.. and have both the 5.75 and 11x8 widescan coils for my Vaquero Black. I have the 8" brown round on my compadre, and have found similar results as you. That settles my interest in 5.75 concentric... I will stick with the two I have, and go find some treasure!! Thanks for posting your test Jim. Tim.

I think that the guys who are having better luck with the concentric coils are using them in less mineralized soil....How are you making out with the 11x8 de coil ?.......Jim

I like the 11x8dd. It is perfect for getting a little extra coverage per swing, and I have found it to get a little more depth than the 5.75, so when I take it out on soccer fields or more ooen ground, the 11x8 is what I load on. Where I have found my Vaquero sings, is in all metal. I feel I can get every bit as deep as any of my other machines, when running AM. I can't wait to get it out on the beach, where you want to dig every target. It is a great detector.

I hunt in the same dirt as tiftaaft and didn't like the widescan coils mostly due to degraded iron discrim. I believe Tesoro's, at least the half dozen or more models I've used, discriminate iron better with concentric coils and I was able to run the same amount of sensitivity regardless of the coil. Your experience may be different.

Sometimes the EXACT same dirt... you are just better at it than I am. :) Tim.

Kind comments, better hardly, just a little more coil time.
