I don't know about the gold coins being washed up, but I do know gold coins were found while digging on certain beaches.

Years ago when I took the gamblers bus from Pa. got a lot of silver back to seated and one 1781 realle with misc. gold finds but no coins..Wait for a northeastern and go for it as the skys the limit..I know over the last several years they dumped a lot of sand but storms really move it around along with high waves...

It's much more the location and conditions when it comes to beach hunting than the dectector. No detector in the world will find something that isn't there !

Go to a sanded in beach and super deep units come up empty. Go to a beach with 5-6 feet of sand erroded away from the base layer, and things start to happen.
