detector built into a long coat

i had this idea for a rig built into a long coat for parks use.
it hangs a few inches off the ground and the approx 2.5 feet coil is in the hem of the coat so as you walk you detect .
the head phones are wireless and no stem because your body is the stem.
the control box is in the pocket.

no more people asking you what you have found.
and you can cover more ground and find bigger targets

Hey once I was at a beach and didnt want to look too obvious so I put my propointer in my rubber sandle and shuffled around a bit, found some stuff. When my old relic magnum (with 12 batteries) got too heavy I put the body in a front mounted back pack and added an extension to the wand, worked ok. I did modification like that to my f4 before. Now the ltd 75, that ones staying as is .CO

I'll take a little stuffed animal see, like a dog or something, and poke the coil into its backside, disguise the shaft like its a leash, and walk completely undisturbed around the parks! It wont appear out of place when I bend down to retrieve a target...lookie loos will just think i'm picking up poop! Better yet, just tape the coil to the belly of a REAL dog, get rid of the lower shaft, put the control in your pocket, and guide him around! :lmfao: I bet that long overcoat idea will attract more attention than anything! Propointer in your rubber sandle! Priceless! Any body beat this?

i'm gonna go down to the dollar store and buy a little plastic toy lawnmower, like what a kid would use, put the coil up underneath, wear some goofy looking clothes, and really grid a park like some poor mentally handicapped adult! Pushing that lawnmower and muttering "theres gotta be a pony in here somewhere". Nobody would dare bother me then, and if they did, I'd just stand there and wet my pants to complete the effect! Hows that? Way much better than the dog idea!:lmfao:

I have never hunted a cemetery and would absolutely never, ever do so. I do hunt ghost towns and I don't feel guilty about it...should I?

For hunting a cemetery:

-wear dark clothing
-approach the cemetery property in the dead of night (pun intended)
-upon stepping onto cemetery property, throw a sheet over your head
-clip a small flashlight to a pocket and turn it on so you can see and be seen
-upon finding a target to dig, check for the 'halo effect' and if not found, dig ... up to a 6' deep hole
-upon seeing headlights from any approaching vehicle...act like your are a resident just stepping out for the evening and get the *ell out of there.

I just couldn't resist

LOL this topic is a riot

Why not just wear a windbreaker thats marked Bomb Squad and mark off an area of the park with yellow police line do not cross tape??

I must be very uninventive! I just walk around with my detector, and if anyone asks what I'm doing I tell them its an electric whipper snipper.

LOL..because it's against the law to impersonate a Police Officer....

I am in the process of building a simple loaded-loop locator, plans from Charles Rake's book and putting it in a walking cane. I hope to have the coil looking like one of the 4 pronged extensions like on the regular canes-the only difference will be the circular coil adjoining the 4 prongs on the bottom. At my age, the cane would be a natural addition and I plan on using a LED instead of the meter circuit. It's getting to the point that discretion is going to be of the future.

yep i am afraid you are right ,more draconian controls on everything you do is coming .lets face it dogs make holes and distribute feaces all over the place and they get away with it .squirrels dig holes in lawns.
so it looks like detectorists will face ever more complainants in the future .
the makers can either come up with the new designs or face smaller sales .
at present the standard rig is like a red flag to a bull and things will only get worse .
jealousy may also come into it as the public thinks you are getting rich on your hobby

Elton, LOL it IS against the law to impersonate a police officer, BUT its not against the law to make them THINK your an officer. To have crime lab tape up and to wear a coat that say's bomb squad isn't against the law!!. To TELL someone your a cop is. So you tape off a BIG area, wear your headphones and DON'T say a word to ANYONE.

IF someone calls the police, you tell them your detecting!! Better to have a couple so it looks like a squad though!!!! It will be more believable for the croud that gathers and the news cameras!!!!!!!! BUT I am sure they wouild ALL stay on the outside of the tape!!

How about this. No one will want to stay around if they see you take it so lightly. They tend to shun crazy people.
